In Retrospect: Author's Note

If you've read all the way until here, then here's a big THANK YOU! Thank you for even giving this story a chance when you could have read something else. Thank you for reading this even though it's horrible in my opinion. Thank you.

That being said, I plan to do major editing. Someday. (Which really means it’ll be a long long time later.) As of now though, I don't plan on uploading the edited chapters on Wattpad, though I might change my mind later.

So, I’ve decided to do the rest of the note in Q&A form. Let’s start now!

The story

Q: What was the inspiration behind this story?

A: It came from the title, lol. I was thinking of the idiom that I posted in chapter one, ‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned’, and I thought, ‘hey if Lucifer (though I was really thinking of Hades) had a daughter, and if she got scorned by a human, it’ll be pretty epic and punny’... And that was how this story came about.

That being said, this story ended up VERY far from my original idea. And I’m not totally convinced it’s a good thing.

Q: How far from the original idea is this story?

A: Pretty darn far. Keela was supposed to end up with Jeremy, not Akaden! And they were supposed to live on Earth, not in Hell. And they were supposed to have more moments together, so that both could properly fall in love with each other, as opposed to insta-love, you know?

Other ideas I toyed with include having Keela’s mother be Evelyn’s mother as well (Hell would really freeze over with that one - and did you see what I did there?). Lucifer was supposed to be meaner, in the sense that he discovered about the Goodwins and threatened to harm them if Keela didn’t return to Hell and marry Beelzebub. And having Oria and Cayden fall for each other. Yep, I said it. That was the original pairing before I realized that Cayden seemed like he had a crush on Keela instead. So I had to invent Lorcas because Oria deserves a happy ending too. :)

This story has actually changed a lot since I first envisioned it; it was supposed to be a romantic comedy and not so dark. But I can't write humor and I love writing dark stories (you haven't seen my dark writing side, I swear), this happened instead. And somehow the whole revenge thing lasted less than one chapter, considering the title of the story. Which means if my edited version doesn't have more revenge portions, then I might change the title. (And that's sad since I personally think it's brilliant! ... But maybe it's just me. And sorry for the egotistical comment.)

Q: What exactly are Trackers?

A: Trackers are special demons who have the power to track escaped demons, as their name suggests. I was gonna explain that this was a more common occurrence in the past than now, so the Trackers also take on other roles on Earth, like procuring items on Lucifer’s (and now Keela) request.

Q: What was Hell like before Keela changed it?

A: I envisioned Hell to be, appearance-wise, constructed of stone, like in the medieval times, with magma running along the walls and floor since they’re deep underground. Function and mentality wise, they’re slightly more progressive - think Victorian era. So Keela’s probably the Industrial Revolution!

The characters

Q: Why Jeremy? Why not Tom/Dick/Harry?

A: I like the name Jeremy. Hey, I’m the writer!

That aside, Jeremy’s full name was always meant to be Jeremiah Adam Goodwin (well, maybe not the last name). I knew I wanted him to have a Biblical name just to be ironic considering who Keela is. (For those who are curious and don’t know, Jeremiah means ‘God Will Uplift’ in Hebrew. I don’t have to explain Adam, do I?)
