Grace's POV.
I looked at the stranger on the stretcher, wide eyed and gasping trying to catch his breath. I glanced at the papers in the doctors hands and saw he was documenting him as dead. "Who's... Who's she?" He asked, between breaths. I looked him up and down noticing how young he is. "I don't know. I thought all your visitors left." The doctor answered, cocking an eyebrow at me. "I-I'm Grace." I answered, my voice shaking. "I heard a commotion and came to check it out. How are you feeling..." I paused, looking once more at his chart for his name. "Johnny?" I finished my question, looking back at him. My fitted purple long sleeved shirt and blue jeans showed I'm no doctor or nurse. I carried my blue jean jacket on my arm holding it where my long, curly, black hair ends. "I'm sorry, I probably shouldn't be here." I said, about to head out the door when the doctor spoke to me. "No it's fine. I'm sure Johnny-boy here would like the company." The doctor said. "Besides I'm sure he's gonna be excited to hear, there is a treatment for his back! We're gonna contact the hospital in Texas to see when they can take you in." The doctor continued with a huge smile. "Really?!" He squeaked with excitement. The doctor laughed before heading out with the nurse, going down the hall way and outta sight.
This won't be so bad. I thought, slowly walking in the room. He looks like he's a mistreated greaser too. "So, what happened to you that you're in the hospital?" I asked, taking a seat on the chair by his bed. "Look." He answered, doing his best to point to a newspaper beside his bed. I picked it up and started to read about him and two other people. Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dallas hero's. I read, reading all about how Johnny killed that soc Bob and how Pony and Johnny left town with the help of Dallas and everything else.
"You're... Amazing." I whispered, looking back at him. He smiled and then thought for a minuet. "Hey... Grace-right?" He asked. I nodded then he continued. "You're a greaser right?" I nodded again, wondering were this was going. "So, you understand the importance of hair grease. Will you help me put some on?" He asked me, as I started to search for the bottle holding the hair grease. I found it in a nurses cabinet and poured some in my hand. I brushed his hair with my other hand and then slicked his hair back, making it look as tuff as the other greasers hair. I held up a mirror for him to see what I'd done. "Man, you did good. You know you can talk to me right? I'm usually the quiet one." He said, laughing. "Sorry, I guess I'm just use to sticking to myself. You're actually really nice to be around." I said, giggling at his attempts to get me to speak. "Want me to fix your pillow?" I asked, noticing it was still sunk in. "Would you mind? I don't wanna overwork you." He said, glad I was talking but shocked at how I wanted to serve him. "No, nothings to much. So, tell me about your family at home." I said, gingerly picking up his head and fixing his pillow. "Well, my home life ain't so good but I have friends to rely on. My mom yells at me and the old man beats me. However I'd rather get the belting than how they usually ignore me." He answered, suddenly growing sad. After I fixed his pillows I went and stood at his side, not feeling like sitting. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't want you to get upset." I said, giving him a apologetic frown. "It's ok. So, what about you?" He asked, thinking it might change the subject. "That's actually why I was so close. My dad just died a few rooms down. My mom told me to get lost. But it's ok I'd be better off anywhere than with that witch." I said, slightly rougher than I should have when I called her a witch. "Huh, so I guess that means we're from the same type of home." Johnny said, kinda smirking. "Yea, I guess so." I replied, with my head held high. "Now, get some sleep. You're gonna need it if we're going to Texas anytime soon." I said, giving him a full smile. It's been a long time since I've actually smiled like that. I went to walk out the door, hesitating a little more with each step. "Wait, promise me something?" He asked, with a look that said; 'I'm praying you say yes.' "Yes, anything." I said, fulfilling his request. "Stay with me?" He asked, reaching out for my hand as far as he could. "Of course." I said, smiling once more. I got close to him so he could reach my hand that he held until he fell asleep.
(Quick A/N: I'm trying to update this book as much as possible ASAP since it's new. I also have "Never love again" to work on so if I say I'm working on a update and it takes longer than you'd think then I'm extremely sorry. Well, it's break and I'll be up way later than midnight and I'll work on it. My main point of this A/N though is to aware my readers of two things. First off: I type on my phone late at night and I typically use swype so if there's some funky words I'm extremely sorry. So I'm the queen of typo's. Second off: All rights go to S.E.Hinton (I'm sure that you have to say that by law for Fan-Fcs) :P Sorry this A/N got lengthy but these are things I think you should know.
