When i got back from Jasmine's house at 9:00 am, i headed straight to the shower.
I have a shift from 10:00 to 3:00. I'm not sure if Maverick is working, but i couldn't help but hope he was.
I turned off the cold water and stepped out of the shower. Grabbing a towel from the rack, i dried my body and twisted it around my hair.
I turned the fake gold doorknob to the main area of my room. Slipping on white jean shorts, my diner shirt, and my black sandals, I then applied concealer, mascara, brow filler, and nude eyeshadow. I pulled the towel off of my head and towel dried my curls quickly.
9:23 it read.
I decided I'd leave early and stop by the ice cream shop for "lunch." Grabbing a 10$ bill, i hustled out the two doors.
Humidity wrapped around me like a blanket. The walk wasn't far, just two roads away. About halfway there, i was observing my surroundings when a red mustang slowed down beside me.
"Hey baby, how much you cost for a night?"
I turned to the mustang to see two sleezy-looking men. One was white and fat with an uneven, messy beard. His hair was auburn and greying.
The guy next to him was hispanic and skinnier, but still looked nasty.
I glared lightly and kept walking.
The icecream shop is on the corner, I said to myself, just make it to there.
"What makes you think you can treat us like that, doll face," the hispanic man said, laughing maniacally.
I simply ignored them and sped up my walking pace.
"Whatever, she ain't worth it," the hispanic man told his friend. They sped off, and i ran the rest of the way to the ice cream shop, trembling profusely.
I walked in to see an older lady behind the counter. Her frizzy gray hair was laying messily above her shoulders in a long bob.
"Hey, love, what can i get for ya?"
I walk over to the selections and spot my favorite; chocolate chip cookie dough. My mouth waters.
"Chocolate chip cookie dough," i say.
"What type of cone?"
"A waffle cone is fine," i respond. I walk to the register and wait for her to finish up. Then, she hands me my cone and i give her my ten dollar bill in exchange.
"Thank you," i say quietly after grabbing my change.
I walk out before i can hear her response.
By the time i reach the diner, the cone is gone and i feel more content. I walk in to see Jasmine, frustratedly wiping off tables.
The service seemed slow today. Only an old couple with already-served food sat in the corner.
I go to check in and find my unfamiliar coworkers in the kitchen. The chef and other employees look at me.
"I'm Evelyn," i say, faking every drop of confidence in my voice. "I'm new around here."
The chef nods. "I'm Gio, and this is the crew," he nods toward the other workers.
I smile halfheartedly, not really caring.
Checking in for my shift on the wall behind me, i then leave to find someone to serve.
The old couple is gone now and Jasmine is sitting on a chair. She's supposed to be at the hostess stand...
Maverick pushes through the door, the bell ringing. He looks at me, smiles boyishly, then walks over to Jasmine to talk to her.
