Chapter 1 The Ticket

The beach is such a beautiful place to just lay back and have fun without having to worry about all the problems going on around you. Just to put your feet back and just take in all that is good. Just time for me to r-

“I bet you can’t catch me Andrea!” yelled my brother as he ran passed me throwing water all over me. I sat up in my seat surprised and looked over at him pretending I was angry.

“I’ll get you for this Brian!” I yelled. He started laughing and ran away. I was about to run after him when my mother held me back.

“Good girls don’t attack their brothers” she said. I rolled my eyes.

“Whatever!” I said as I sat back down and put on my sunglasses.

“You know I love it when you take time from your busy day to spend with family” she said. Of course she expects me to say it so I will.

“I always have time for you guys. I love you all a lot” I said as I took off my glasses and sat up. I like spending time with my brothers because they know how to have fun! Even though I’m almost twenty one I still like to play around, it’s fun! I have friends and yeah we have fun but nowadays it’s very rare for us to do that sort of stuff. They say that they can’t do that anymore, there’s no time for it or something like that. I used to have a friend that would have a water gun fight with me and do stuff like that but then he moved and I never saw him again. I never really did fun things when I was younger. My mom would make me stay in the house because she didn’t like me getting dirty outside with mud but that was the whole point of being outside!

She would always come up with excuses and I would always whine but one day I just gave up. I also remember that as a kid I would have to listen to my mother’s screams because my father would beat her. I once wanted to help her but she said it was too dangerous. To this day I don’t get why she put up with that crap before. I’m just glad she finally let him go. I mean, I would have called the cops but for one I didn’t know how and two there were no phones in the house. My brothers don’t know anything about father because he left when they were born but I know where he is and I talk to him every now and then because he always checks on me. Ever since he left he’s been nicer and stuff. I wonder what changed him.

 “Andrea, what are you thinking about?” asked my mother as she took out money from her purse to go by a drink. I looked at her and shook my head as I put my glasses back on.

“Nothing,” A while later I decided to go in the water. I was going in slowly because the water was cold then my brothers both pushed me in, making me swallow some water when I screamed. I swam up to shore coughing. “I’ll get you two for this”

“Sorry sis… we had to get pay back from what you did to us last time” they said. I got up and chased them all around the beach. I slipped on a sandal and fell on my face in the sand. I heard them laughing. I looked up then felt tired so I just lie there for a moment then I heard a man whistle. I sat up and saw him standing right there. I looked up at him. He smiled.

“Need help?” he said as he put his hand out. I reached for it. He pulled it away and I fell back down. “Sike”

He laughed then went over to my brothers and gave them a high five. They all laughed at me. I smirked and got up. I was all covered in sand. It was all stuck to my skin. I went rinsed it off. I went over to my brothers who were still laughing with that stranger.

“Ha-ha, very funny” I said. They looked at me. “Didn’t mom tell you not to talk to strangers?”

“He’s not a stranger-” said Brian.

“He’s Steven’s brother and he said he’d help us with this” said Byron.

“Yeah” they both said. The guy walked up to me.

“Sorry I had to do that” he said quietly. I looked at him and smiled.

“Don’t worry I’ll get you back” I said. His eyes went wide. “I’ll get you all back and it’ll be soon-”

I looked over at my brothers.

“Very soon” I said then looked back at the guy.

“God dang it” he said as he put his head in his hand. I smiled then walked off. My mother told me it was time to go so I went to change. I brushed my hair which was pretty tangled and walked out. I bumped into someone who was very damp. I made this disgusted face. “Eww”

“Sorry about t-” he said then he saw me. Oh look it’s that guy!

“You…” we both said as we pointed at each other.

“You better watch where you’re going next time” I said as I stood up. I dusted myself off. 

“Next time?” he asked with a smirk.

“You know what I meant” I said then stormed off. I shook my head and fluffed my hair which was drying quickly. When we were almost out that guy started walking behind me.

“Did you have a good time?” he asked from behind. I turned my head still walking and frowned. I grabbed the bags and my brothers grabbed the chairs, both things which my mom was holding.

“Come on” I whispered to them and then we were off. We ran to the car and quickly put the things in. My mom ran behind us and got in the car. We all jumped in then I started driving off and then I noticed that guy was close behind.  At the stop light he moved next to me.

“Ready to lose?” said all the guys that were in his car. I had the most determined look on my face then the light changed and the race started.

My mom kept telling me to slow down and my brothers wanted me to win! I smiled and then there was a red light. I stopped and suddenly a police siren was heard behind me. I moved to the side of the road and that guy parked right in front of me. The police car parked behind me. I got out of the car and so did that dude. It’s freezing! -I thought as soon as I got out of the car. We both walked up to the police man.

“Something wrong officer” I asked.

“You two were going over the speed limit” he said. I turned around and saw my mom and my brothers’ head down in the car. I frowned and looked back at the officer. I glanced over at that dude and he looked totally chill! “The fine will be $200 for both of you”

“Alright officer” he said calmly as he reached into his wallet. Two-hundred dollars! I don’t have that kind of money.

“Uh…officer” I said unsure.

“Don’t worry…I got it” the dude whispered as he passed the police man $400.

As the police officer walked off I whispered, “You know you didn’t have to do that.”

“Why do you say that?” he asked as he turned around and walked off. I caught up to his pace.

“It was my fine…my responsibility” I said as we turned to face each other before walking off to our cars.

“Yeah but…” he tucked his hands in his sweater pockets, which had "Tobuscus" written across it. I shook my head and listened to what he was saying. “I was the one that challenged you so I felt like I had to pay it and with the look on your face I doubt you had the money to pay for it”

He laughed. I semi giggled because I realized that I must have looked really worried.

“Well thanks!” I said as he walked off.

“Don’t worry about it goodnight” he said as he got in his car and drove off.

“Goodnight…”
