The starry sky was spread out like a giant blanket above the Killjoy hideout. In Battery City, there were curfews, and hardly anybody got to see the moon, or the stars or anything. It was so different out here.
I was laying next to Party Poison on the warm sand, mere inches between us. Beside his chest was a nearly empty bottle of Vodka we both had drank on. The vodka had a funny effect on me. It was like there were bees in my head. Party Poison said that was normal, and it would just wear off. I could hear him breathing. It was almost like magic, to be here.
I rolled over onto my side. Party Poison's eyes were still staring up into the sky. "Aren't you worried?" I whispered. The question could mean a number of things. Was he worried about B/L Inc. finding him? Was he worried about his future? Was he worried about falling in love?
"That would be a waste of time," he said simply, and looked over at me, "Are you?"
I sighed, and turned back over onto my back. A shooting star zoomed directly above me. It twinkled for a minute, then dissappeared. "No," I replied, "Not anymore."
"Then niether am I."
Party Poison reached his hand out suddenly, like a quick, jerky movement that a wild animal would do. He grabbed my hand and held it gently in his. I looked over at him in disbelief. "Are you sure this is a good idea?" I asked, sitting up. He did the same, and faced me. Party Poison put his hands on the back of my head.
"I've never been more sure of anything in my entire life."
I'm not sure what made me do it. It could have been gut instinct, or it could have been the half bottle of vodka buzzing in my head, or both. Something made me lean in. Something made me kiss him. I tried to let go, but my body wouldn't let me. Even as the kiss deepened, I still wouldn't let go. Finally, I felt this was getting out of hand. I slightly opened my mouth, but Party Poison took that as an invitation. He slipped his tongue into my mouth, sliding it across the straight front row of my teeth. For a minute, I was glad I hadn't pulled back. This was amazing.
Party Poison pulled out first, but only slightly. He leaned back a bit and smirked, with his eyes still closed. "Wow," he whispered, leaning his forehead against mine, "Dynamite."

Hours later, I woke up on the warming sand. The sun was slowing pulling itself up from the edge of the vast horizon. Somewhere in the distance, a jackrabbit hopped back into it's burrow. I sighed. Below my ear, I could hear Party Poison's heart beating. He was still asleep. We'd stayed up really late kissing and talking, but mostly kissing.
This was so surreal. Yesterday at this time, I was fleeing Battery City. Two days ago at this time, I was being drug out of my cell towards the electric chair. "Nevermind," I thought quickly, shaking that morbid memory out of my head, "That will never happen again. He'll keep you safe." I lifted my head slightly. Party Poison's eyes were closed. He didn't even really look like the same person when he slept. I smiled and traced my index finger over the curve of his lips. Memories from last night flooded my head, and I began to blush.
Were we moving too fast?
I had met him twenty-four hours ago. Was that too soon? I looked down at the young man who was still soundly sleeping. Really, the last thing he needed was somebody to worry about. He's got a lot on his plate. I mean, he has to take care of the other Killjoys and the girl.
I had learned last night that Dr. Death is getting way to old to do raids anymore, so Party Poison had to take over at the leader. He's really stressed out and scared, especially for some of the others who aren't to attentive during a fight with the Draculoids. He also said that when Dr. Death kicks the bucket, he'll be left completely in charge of everything. Even by just talking to him, I could tell he was really, really scared. I sat on my knees, putting my head in my hands.
Party Poison began to stir. He leaned his head foreward slightly. "Oh," He said, sounding relieved, "For a minute, I thought you were Fun Ghoul, and I was going to push you off, and beat you up." I didn't respond for a minute. A thick ball was stuck in my throat. I couldn't speak, as I remembered how the red-haired young man had transformed into a scared little boy as he told me how he dreaded the future. He was scared to grow up.
"D-Do you think we should do this?"
Damn. I stuttered.
"What are you talking about, Diamond?" He asked, sitting up and moving beside me.
"Are you sure we should be together?" I basically repeated, without looking at him. "I don't want you to have to worry about me like you worry about Kobra."
It was quiet for a minute. "I get it now," he muttered, shaking his head rapidly, "You're having second thoughts. Well don't. I like you, and you like me. It's as simple as that. Don't make it any more complicated than it needs to be Diamond. That's why the world is so crazy." When I didn't respond, he continued, "Diamond, if you want to wait, I can wait."
I sat up, and turned to face him. "One day," I whispered, resting my head on his shoulder, "The world will go back to normal. Korse will go away and the Killjoys will just become regular people. One day, you and I won't be two kids who are just messing around. One day, you and I will be together."
Party Poison took the hint. He looked slightly hurt, but then weakly smiled. "Okay," he whispered, "Okay, but one thing first. I just want one more kiss."
I smiled and put both of my hands on the back of his neck. Our lips met for a few seconds in a slow and passionate kiss. He pulled back first, and smiled. "Wonderful." Party Poison then stood up and pulled me to my feet. "Let's go inside before they suspect something."
