Chapter Four

"Thank you," Scarlett said. "I knew you were our girl." She gave me red lipped smile as a knock sounded from the door way.

"And that should be the man of the hour," she smiled. "Come in!"

With that the door eased open and in walked Nick Jonas.

I hadn't really taken him in. Only seen various pictures of himself in magazines that Ruby and I had picked up. He WAS attractive, there was no denying that. He had dark brown hair- almost black if you looked quickly- that was sticking straight up at the front of like a professional had styled it. His cheekbones were high, light stubble painting across his chin and upper lip, around his thin pink lips. I then noticed his arms, which were just about tearing through the light brown cardigan of his.

Gosh, I innerly groaned and snapped my head away from him before my thoughts could process.

"Nick," Scarlett said, standing up and gesturing to me. "I'd like you to meet Rayne Stephanie, your new girlfriend."

My heart slightly hitched at that word, I stood up and stuck my hand out for him to shake. His eyes barely brushed across me, before landing to narrow on Scarlett, venom in the gaze.

"I told you I didn't want a fake girlfriend," he said through gritted teeth, his voice cold.

I slowly lowered my hand.

Scarlett sighed, crossing her tiny arms over her chest. "And I told you that you didn't really have much of a say in it. I'm your publicist, Nick. This will be for the better, it will clear the air of whatever happened between you and Anna-"

"Don't talk about, Anna," he cut her off.

Scarlett leaned forward, slamming her palms down on the desk so she could look him straight in the eye.

"You screwed up," she stated simply, but her tone held nothing less of athority. "You kissed the girl, you messed up. I'M trying to fix that. So, unless you want the fans knowing or beliving the rumor of you kissing your brother's girlfriend, you better cooperate. I'm only doing this for your own good."

I stood there awkwardly, hands in a knot in front of me.

Nick's muscled jaw twitched. His eyes stern.

"Okay then," she said, flashing me a smile. "Your first date will be tomorrow, to the coffee bistro on the corner. Someone will give the paparrazzi the hint..." She scanned the papers in front of her. "Rayne," she pointed to me. "Clothes will be delivered to your apartment and you have a hair appointment later this week. For a date with your lovely boyfriend." She smiled brightly at Nick.

"A hair appointment?" I asked, astounded, clutching the end of my curly locks.

"Yes," she said sweetly. "Love the color, you just need a SLIGHT trim. Don't worry, I told them what I want and they have it already set up."

"But- but... I like my length," I said defensively.

She waved the contract in the air. "You signed this, love. You are in my hands." She set the paper down and stood up to look at us. "Well, get on out of here, I have a lunch date in ten minutes."

She explained to me over the phone later that night the importance of the cofindentiality agreement that had apparently been included in the contract. She asked that only my roommate would know- if she was trustworthy- because there might be speculation if the press find out where I live. Scarlet mentioned though, if Ruby was too let the fact slip that Nick and I were really dating, the law suit would be on my head.

Later that night when I came home, after I sat in a lavender bath for an hour, I broke the news to Ruby.

"AHHH!" she screeched, jumping up on my bed and performing jumping jacks. "I can't believe you are dating Nick Jonas!"

"I'm not dating-"

"Oh but you are! The only person who knows that you aren't really- is me. This is... I am lost for words," she clapped her hands together, giddy.

I groaned. "You're crazy."

"Me?" she mocked, shocked. "No, I am only the one acting how normal 21 year olds act, you my dear are the crazy one. You haven't even cracked a smile." She pointed her finger and poked it to my chest.

I sighed, tossing my hands into my crossed legged lap. "You just don't understand, Ruby. He was just a jerk, like I stuck my hand out to for him to shake and he just blatantly ignored me. I don't know how I could ever PRETEND to be with him."

She grabbed my hands in hers. "Hey, if it just is so bad. FIRST remember that you're doing this to follow your dream, because you will are AWESOME at what you do, believe me, I've live with you long enough. Second, if it doesn't work out send me some Nicholas." She gave me a dramatic wink.

I playfully nudged her, smiling.
