A WEEK LATER, I found myself smoothing out my red plaid skirt.
To their credit, Summer Grove didn't have the worst uniforms. They were actually quite tolerable. They consisted of a red plaid skirt, a rather thin white blouse under a black blazer and a bright red tie. I paired it with a pair of black ankle boots and slipped an assortment of rings onto my fingers.
As a gift to celebrate making Sixth Form, Dad had bought me an expensive looking ring, made of silver entwining around, what I could only assume were, diamonds. I wore it on right middle finger and I never took it off.
I'd showered and dried my hair, leaving it long and loose around my shoulders. I figured if anything, I could hide my face for as long as possible.
I grabbed the black Michael Kors tote Mum had bought me for school and headed downstairs.
Dad had left for work, but he'd left me a note on the dining table, along with a small turquoise bag.
Scarlett- I couldn't be prouder of you. Enjoy your first day of school. And remember, you're a fighter. Show them how strong you are. Love, Daddy.
I grinned, noticing the line added at the bottom.
PS- Don't hit anybody. That left hook of yours would rival an MMA Fighter. xox
I giggled. The first time Dad had attempted to wake me up to say goodbye, I'd given him a black eye. I was surprised when he told me it made him proud.
I sat down, nibbled at the bagel the maid had left for me, and picked up the bag.
I didn't recognize the store name on the bag, but I assumed it was high end. "Nothing less for Daddy's Girl," he would say.
I pulled out the paper and found a white jewelry box. I opened it, revealing a pair of white gold and diamond hoop earrings.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't spoiled. But trust me, I didn't take it for granted. I knew what it was like to have nothing.
Mum came around the corner just as I was putting on the earrings.
"Oh, aren't they just gorgeous. Your father has excellent taste!" She gushed.
