CHAPTER 14 BACK AT THE PALACE

RICHARD'S POV

I was only gone for 20 minutes and it looks like chaos has broken out at the palace. When I enter the palace there is shouting and screaming. Total confusion. The head of the Royal Guard approaches me and for once I can see his composure is about to break.

"Leon what is going on here?" I ask the head of the Royal Guard.

"Apparently 3 counsel members were found dead in their beds with the traitor's mark and the rest of the counsel is demanding to see either the King or the Royal Luna. They know that the law says that the King cannot be disturbed so they are demanding that your mother take charge again. Do you know where your mother is Dick? We really need her to calm everyone down." Leon says.

"Mother is unavailable at the moment. She is doing her job for the Coronation and cannot be disturbed. Until the new Royal Beta takes his place or the King decides to come out of his chambers you know that I am in charge. You were given those instructions yesterday by Royal Decree so what is the problem?"

"Master Dick I do not think that the Counsel Members will listen to you. They know about the decree but are still demanding otherwise." Leon says.

"Where are they Leon?" I ask him.

"They are in the Counsel Chambers but I don't think I would go in there if I were you because they, well sir they said they will not listen to you." Leon told me. "Besides Dick you can't go into the Counsel Chambers. You know this."

"Leon that is where you are wrong. I am the Royal who was left in charge until the King and his Queen are available or until the new Royal Beta gets here." I tell him.

"Dick I thought you were the new Royal Beta?" Leon says.

"Things change quickly when it comes to Queens and Kings coming of age, Leon. You know this."

"Yes I do but I never thought your uncle would demote you Sir. I am sorry." Leon says with sadness.

"Leon, I have not been demoted. I actually have been promoted." I say with a smile and a twinkle in my eye. "I met my Queen this morning."

"Dick, you aren't making sense. The only thing higher than the Royal Beta is the King and Queen." Leon says with confusion. "How can you be promoted higher than Royal Beta?"

"Leon" I say with Royal Command in my voice, "you cannot repeat what I am about to tell you until after it is announced at the Coronation. Do you understand?"

"Yes my Lord." Leon repeats.

"I found my Queen, my Mate this morning and will be ruling at her side, soon." I tell him quietly.

"What? How? Your not old enough? Wait a minute? Queen? Mate? Are you? No she is older? You can't be? Caitlin?" I can see him working it out in his head as a big smile comes on his face.

I just shake my head and smile.

"Well I'll be damn. I think her mother would have been pleased. I used to have to stand guard when her mother and Tonya would visit and watch you play in the garden."

"Congratulations Your Majesty." Leon says or rather links as he mouths is.

"That would explain the new power radiating off of you as well." He continues aloud.

"Sir would you like for me to accompany you to the Counsel Chambers and stand guard outside?" He asks me.

"Yes Leon and while you are at it. I need a squad at each entrance to the Royal Family Quarters. No one other than my family (and Caitlin's grandparents I link) will be allowed to enter or leave. Is that understood until the all clear is given." I tell him.
