Talk About Pride...

"Yeah! So we were there on the beach talking and like.... She just kissed me and asked me out, like she totally knew that's what I wanted! She knew I was about to ask her! I felt like I was going to fucking explode!" I gossiped to Peridot over Skype as I applied my eyeliner. I stretched certain areas of the story slightly so I didn't just seem like a huge, shy, bumbling idiot of a nerd, and instead made it seem like Jasper was just some kind of psychic, but you know, the little details don't really matter, what matters is that Jasper fucking kissed me!
"Oh my god Lapis! Ha, I knew it! She was totally into you, just like I said!" Peridot's nasally chuckle sounded "so when's the wedding? What're you naming the kids?"
I let out a laugh at that "Psh shut up! One step at a time there Peri. She's picking me up in 10 to get Starbucks, before it closes and then just chill out at the park, and on Thursday we're going to go see that new horror movie that's in theatres... I forget the name of it, but it's going to be great! I'm so exited!"
Peridot smirked on the screen "a horror movie huh? You know what that means? You'll have a legitimate excuse to bury your face in her chest... You know, jump scares and all? And then on the drive home you can say something corny that carries a shit ton of sexual tension like 'you'll protect me? Won't you?' And then she can take you home with her and-"
My cheeks burned red "Peri!!" I yelled "No!" I tried to laugh it off "I really like her, I don't want to fuck things up by going too fast.... Also you really like that Halloween episode of CPH don't you?"
"Alright alright... I get it..." Peridot rolled her eyes with a smirk still plastered on her lips "and yeah no duh I do. That's the episode the superior pair I know and love, Percy and Pierre, watched that 'Camp Pining's Curse' home made film from the last batch of campers, discovered their homoerotic feeling for each other and got it on later that night on Paulette's bunk. It was gold!"
I shook my head and let out a chuckle "You're too obsessed with that pairing I swear...." I stood and stepped towards my dresser "Now what should I wear? It's a casual kinda thing right? And it's not supposed to be too cold, but I still need long sleeves and pants... So I was thinking the light cyan spaghetti strap, with the liberty and powder blue flannel and my black ripped jeans?" I said as I dug through my drawer.
"No no, not the spaghetti strap top... That's too much blue... Go with the white V-neck t-shirt, and add your choker-style Lapis necklace." Peridot advised.
I nodded "Ah yes! You're so right! Now what about shoes? Black converse with blue laces, or blue converse with black laces?"
"Mix em up. Mix-match style, you know? Wear one of each! It'll add this hint of coolness and a bit of a rebellious feel to the outfit. You're too good for matching shoes." Peridot told me. She was a little genius when it came to outfits and style ever since she took that fashion class last year for a needed art credit. I always trusted her to make me look good. "Okay... Now Lapis, it's my turn to ask you what I should wear."
I studied her facial expression on the screen. She seemed proud and happy but there was a hint of nervousness there "Wear? To what?" I asked her
Her cheeks went pink "To my before school breakfast date with Amethyst tomorrow." She smiled softly "Y-you're not the only one who's recently been woo'd by a member of the Quartz family... She said she wanted talk to me over something to eat... I think she might ask me to the Pride Dance...."
My eyes lit up and I stared at her' mouth agape for a second before I let out a little squeal of excitement "Oh my god! Peri!? You didn't tell me you liked her! You didn't tell me you were into girls at all actually... But holy shit! That's so cute!" I clapped my hands together "Okay so breakfast right? Are you talking breakfast pizza from Fish-stew, or like that new classy-casual looking Cafe on the board walk?"
"Boardwalk Cafe." She told me with a smile "Amethyst wants to check it out because she hasn't been there yet."
"Aww, that's a cute place! Damn Peri, you get new classy Cafe and I just get Starbucks." I shook my head with a chuckle. "Anyway, you'll want something casual, but with a hint of class to it. Like your faded mint ruffled tank blouse, with a fern button-up, unbuttoned to go over top. Then go with your solid gray skinny jeans with the fake rips and your black and forest skate sneakers. For accessories just wear your glasses and keep your bangs back with two forest green hair Barrettes." I offered.
I could see Peridot thinking about it, imagining what she'd look like in the outfit I described. After a moment she gave me a coy smile. "And here I thought I was the fashion expert."
Suddenly I could hear the doorbell ringing and I jumped up "Holy Shit! That must be Jasper! I'm not even dressed yet! I'll talk to you later Peri! Bye"
"See ya~ tell me all about it later?" She said with question in her voice.
"You know it!" I replied before ending the call. I heard the doorbell ring a couple more times as I quickly dressed myself and fixed my hair before making my way to the door.
When I swung the door open it appeared that Jasper was about to press the doorbell again.
Upon seeing me her hands crossed against her chest "Took ya long enough~" she said with a joking smirk. "So do you wanna walk or take the truck?"
"Psh, shut up!" I told her as I stepped outside and closed and locked the door behind me. "I was talking to Peridot and running a little late." I smiled back "and can we walk today? It's a pretty nice evening."
She nodded and we started walking. "So what'd Peridot have to say this time?" She asked me.
"Well I told her what happened and she said we're cute and she's happy for us. Oh! And apparently she's got a breakfast date with Amethyst tomorrow! Isn't that cute?!" I responded to her question.
She rose a brow quizzically "Wait... you mean Peridot's the 'cute nerd' Am's been telling me she wants to ask to that dance thing?"
"What?!" I exclaimed "Amethyst actually does want to ask her to the Pride Dance?! Oh my god! Peri's gonna be so happy!" I clapped my hands together in joy and excitement with a smile. After a minute of silence I changed the topic "So how was work today?" 
"Absolute bullshit, as usual. I don't wanna bore you with the the details though... so yeah." She went silent for a moment like I had and she also changed the topic "So What's a 'Pride Dance'?" She asked me.
"You don't know what a pride dance is?!" I responded alarmed. "Pride... as in LGBT+ pride... it's a big dance for people like us! Lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders... everyone like that! Our city throws one every year around this time, it's really great!  It's a really nice and reassuring environment! I went there last year, with Garnet, Pearl, and Amethyst, Peri couldn't go because she had a class field trip that weekend but yeah... none of us had dates but it was still really fun!" I flashed her a genuine smile.
I saw her eyes light up slightly "S-so say someone's trans or really gay or both wasn't feeling so hot... like they felt alone... they could go to this dance and meet others just like them?" She asked me.
I nodded "yeah! Isn't it great?! I can't believe you've never heard of it before..."
"Well you could say my old town wasn't very... liberal... they were a little bit against that kinda stuff..." she bit her bottom lip "so uh... you wanna like... go to it?"
"With you?" I asked, and she nodded in response "Yeah! Definitely!" She smiled shyly at me and I could see she was blushing. I smiled back and we walked into Starbucks and ordered our usual drinks.
"So when is it?" She asked me.
"Oh! It's not this Saturday but the Saturday after that at 7pm until midnight at the Diamond Hall up town.  Everyone's going and we've all planned to wear different coloured dress-shirts with our black suits already... if you don't mind. Amethyst is Purple, I'm blue, Peri's green, Pearls wearing a light yellow but with a pink bow-tie, and Garnet's in Red. If you wear Orange we could be a full-on rainbow!" I told her.
"Well I guess that's a great-ass plan. I'm in." She agreed and we left the building with our beverages.

We were sitting in the park watching the orange sky as the sun began to sink over the horizon, and stars began to appear. We were talking about whatever random little things we thought about like, how excited we were to see the movie later this week, and random things that bothered us at work or at school lately... when I realized something...
"Jasper? Uh.... you asked earlier... when talking about the dance... if someone who's Trans were to go to the dance- I was just wondering...." I started.
She shifted her weight uncomfortably, almost as if she was scared. "Go on?" She mumbled.
"Do you know anyone? Are you planning on inviting them?" I asked.
Her eyes widened and she looked at me unsure for a moment. At last she spoke "Y-yeah... I do know - I know someone... she's going through a bit of a tough time you know? But um..." she shifted in her place as she thought about what to say "Sh-she's not from here..."
I gave a small sympathetic smile "Tough subject?" She nodded. "You don't have to talk about her then... but um... do you ever think I'll meet her? I'd love to try and make her feel better..."
Jasper looked off to the side "heh...you-" she half laughed and followed it up with a sigh "maybe one day."
"Cool" I replied.
"So uh... it's getting late..." she changed the subject "We should head back, we've got school tomorrow..."
"Yeah... let's go." I agreed and and got up. I offered a hand to her and she laughed
"You really think you can pull me up? Lapis, I'm like twice your size!" 
I shrugged "well you can still hold my hand as you get up yourself..."
she rolled her eyes, but smiled a toothy grin. She took my hand and stood. We walk back towards my house.

When we go there my parents were just arriving home with groceries. My father eyed the truck in the driveway confused "who parked their car in my driveway?"
"Sorry sir!" Jasper called as we approached the house "I'll have it out in a sec..."
"Oh... Lapis?" My mother questioned "who's your friend?"
"This is Jasper, my girlfriend." I introduced "Jasper meet my Parents."
Jasper held out her hand to shake those of my parents and greeted both of them with a 'nice to meet you.'
She kissed my cheek and ruffled my hair in an affectionate way "I'm heading home. See you at school babe." I blushed and gave her a smile before replying with "Text me later?"
She unlocked her truck and jumped in "Yeah I will. Night" she responded.
"Goodnight, bye!" I said as she pulled out and drove off.
