DAHLIA

A week and a half since the surgery, how the time has passed.

I was leaving today, unsure where would I go. A strange fear and emptiness crossed my heart as I wondered about my future. A constant thought that Matteo would disappear at any moment. In the morning, he would stay for few hours to feed me hospital food and then leave. He would come back in the night, he would sleep in the uncomfortable chair while holding my hand.

Something had changed between us. An awareness on my part, affection on his side. We always had a bond that tied us together, but it had been different now.

Something changed...

A voice familiar and full of joy asked, "Can we go now?"

Turning towards the man with a cheeky smirk, I smiled back and nodded. Zack took my belongings and I followed him outside. He asked, "What are your plans?"

Unsure, my smile dropped and echoed, "Plans?"

He was about to say something when another voice joined in, "Are we ready?"

Luciano was standing there with an unlit cigarette between his figures. His attire seemed even more pristine than what he usually wears. Looking back at Zack, I noticed that he was wearing a suit as well. In the side pocket, a white beautiful flower was pinned in, which Luciano had the same one.

Before I could enquire, Luciano decided, "Let's go."

After the announcement, he turned around and began walking, which Zack wasn't far behind. I stood in the same spot for few seconds longer to understand what had just happened. However, with their long strides, I began running after them to catch up.

Once I did, they led me into a black slick car. Zack was already inside, and Luciano was about to go to the driver's seat when he saw me standing there like a weird child. He demanded, "Get in the car, Dahlia."

I got to know his personality better in these few days. Although his demand was an order, it was filled with an underlining feeling. I wanted to interrogate both, but being too afraid of Luciano, I sat in the back seat. Luciano started the car and moved, while Zack looked for a channel on the radio.

Eventually, we reached Matteo's mansion. We got out of the car and went inside quietly. Zack and Luciano were walking faster than usual as if time was slipping away. They were ignoring me. I was not sure of what had transpired in few hours. Yesterday, they were all talking to me normally, but I could sense a shift.

I wanted to ask, but I was afraid of the answer.

Despite my conflicting feelings, I followed them silently. The brothers stopped in front of a door and Zack took that opportunity to open it. I stopped in my tracks and looked at them.

Zack said while both brothers looked at me, "Please go inside, Dahlia."

I forced a smile, but I uttered, "This is not my room."

Luciano uttered instead, "We know. Please enter."

Staring at their forms, I looked at them. Zack with his pleading eyes and Luciano stood stoic with his hands on the pockets. Reluctantly, I smiled and nodded.

I made my way inside and glanced around the room. It had full large windows giving in on the intense illuminance, while the white walls complimented the room. The room itself was pristine as every part of the house, but it was still a bedroom.

Feeling alone in the room, I turned around to see the brothers outside of the threshold. Confused, I asked, "Aren't you coming in?"

Zack said, "No, we have few things to do."
