Song: Bastille - The things we lost in the fire

{Merida's POV}

I lay in my bed and let out a frustrated sigh.

I had everything Near didn't; beauty, weapons skill, speed, two working eyes.

I chuckled at my own joke but quickly stopped as another thought entered my mind.

I still had my memories.

Near couldn't remember any of what happened. She didn't remember the training, the endless training. She didn't even know who I was, but I guess that would be easier for me. My thoughts went to her writhing in pain when I looked at her. Father said her memories would never return, what if I triggered something? I should tell father.

But...

It could make things interesting.

I smiled.

Yeah, lets make things interesting, Near.

[Near's POV]

Another dreamless night.

Not that I'm complaining anyway.

I woke up before dawn, which is rare for me, I didn't try to get back to sleep so I got up and started to get ready. It doesn't exactly take much for me to get ready, I wash my face and change from my sleepwear to my clothes, pretty easy.

I retrieved my bow and quiver of sixty-four arrows from where it was hung and held it tightly as I leaned on the fence of my tree house to watch the blocky sun make its way into the sky. I watched the mobs burn like I did most mornings if I was up early enough to watch it, there were more than usual, quite a lot more, reminding me that I had to get to Blockadia to start patrols. I gripped my bow tighter and ran my hand from the upper limb to the lower limb, cherishing the feeling of the smoothness against my fingertips. I'd missed him.

Yeah I called my bow a him, so what? Boats are described as females all the time.

I slipped on my jacket and pulled up the material at the bottom so it covered my nose and pulled up my hood too, so only a few stands of my white hair and my eyes could be seen.

I planted my foot on the balcony edge and launched myself off, slipping my bow over my head and extending my hands out to either side of me as if I was flying. This was my favorite part of jumping, the weightless feeling, the feeling of being untouchable, the feeling of was invincible.

Nothing lasts forever, though.

And nothing is invincible.

My speed picked up again as I plummeted towards the ground, I grabbed the vines from a nearby tree and slowed my decent that way, as always.

five minutes later I was at the gate with my bow in hand, I was surprised when I wasn't stopped for my weapon, the gate's keeper I knew well only cast me a friendly wink and grinned before pointing to the guard tower which led to behind the city walls.

"They start pretty early y'know." He chuckled and opened the door behind him to reveal The Fighters and Team Crafted already picking out weapons. The first one to notice my arrival was Ian, who gave me a friendly wave from across the room, even though his eyes were hidden behind his glasses I could feel his friendly vibe as he greeted me loudly and making my presence known throughout the room.

"Near! We thought we'd have to come and get you!"

I smiled through the material covering my mouth at his cheery attitude and pulled down the cover and my hood. Sky noticed the bow slung over my shoulders and pointed at it.
