"I'm going to kill you." I said slowly, my voice sounded eerily calm to my own ears, ignoring the pain vibrating through my skull. "I'm going to cut off your head and take your eyes, and I'm going to enjoy it."

Merida's blinding eyes narrowed as a smirk twisted itself across her face. She uncrossed her arms and stared me down.

"You may want to lie down, is your head hurting?" Her voice was soft and mocking. The red mist grew into a fog, dulling her eyes and blocking everything but her. I lowered my head slightly and didn't reply, still glaring at her. "Aren't you going to say something? You have an awfully soft voice, you should be reading stories to children, not running around after monsters and playing with knives."

I slowly reached down, not breaking eye contact, I pulled my dagger out of my boot and passed it from one hand to the other.

"You're going to kill me you said? Cut off my head? Taking my eyes won't compensate for yours, Near." She grinned, knowing without me giving anything away that she'd struck a nerve.

"Fight me." I said simply, bending my knees slightly. She raised an eyebrow and shrugged extending her left arm, shadows from the setting sun solidified and jumped into her hand, creating her quartz sword. I charged.

I went low while she went high, We both missed each other by a hairs-breadth. I spun around quickly to go for her side, but she kicked my hand away and followed through with a kick to my head. I went down, rolling away when her boot came down where my face just was. I knew my anger was clouding my judgment, but I was past caring. I charged again, swinging for her leg. She jumped high and swung her foot for my head which I blocked with the blade of my dagger, gouging into her leg. Hearing her barely concealed cry brought a wild grin to my face and a laugh unlike my own tore it's way up my throat and out of my mouth.

I went for her again, determined to deny her any opening to attack me again, I slashed and swung at her face, all of these she met with messy blocks and dodges. Another cry told me I'd cut her again.

Suddenly a fist met my nose.

I skidded back a few feet, my head reeling. That's impossible, no one could punch that hard.

A head blocked the sky above me, light blinding my eye.

My vision cleared once more. I blinked through the blood pouring from my nose upon seeing a cloudy white sword directly above my chest.

"Oh Near, you should've known you were never going to beat me." She cooed, resting the tip of the sword directly on my chest and leaning on it, piercing my clothing. She was standing with her legs either side of me. "You're simply not as good as me."

Despite the situation, I laughed. It sounded too wild again, going on for too long even to my ears.

"What?!" Merida demanded, straightening up and giving me an outraged look. I continued to laugh, the pitch heightening. "WHAT?! TELL ME DAMMIT!"

I finally calmed down, my stomach hurting, letting my head hit the soft grass beneath me and staring past Merida and at the sky above me, which was now alight with stars of a new night. As I did, I felt the bloodlust I felt at her mocks release me, thus clearing my head.

Distract target, place hands on achilles heels push forwards, raise legs as target falls and kick at the base of the neck, vault up, retreive weapon, deliver killing blow.

Go.

I looked Merida dead in the eyes, trying my best to ignore the pain flaring up in my skull.

"Tough words for someone who cried when they were beaten in training. Pathetic."

The change in her mood was uncanny.

Her eyes brightened and her pretty face warped into something demonic. I took my chance.

In one fluid movement I grabbed the back of her heels and pushed, making her fall. I brought up my leg and kicked her hard in the back of the neck, stunning her. Then I vaulted up, I bolted away to look for my knife as she hit the ground, but stopped as something thudded agaisnt my arm, making me stumble from the force. I looked down and saw, much to my blunted confusion, my knife protruding from my bicep. Pain ripped through most of my shoulder and arm as I raised a shaking hand to touch the now blood covered knife.

A different position of the body and I would be dead. I thought calmly.

A growl brought me back to reality, I turned to see Merida's sword glinting in the dull light, she lunged toward me, sword and hand outstretched.

Suddenly there was a blinding flash of black light, a beam of darkness collided with Merida's body midair sending her flying away from me, hitting a jungle tree from the biome where I lived a few blocks away. I looked back at my arm, which was now glistening with my own blood in the light of the moon.

"Near?! Near!" I looked up and saw Finn, her eyes were black and a black aura surrounded her hands. "Oh Notch, your arm..."

I looked back down towards my arm and touched the wet handle of the blade with a shaking finger. Slowly, I enclosed my hand around the handle, ignoring Finn's protests, and pulled the knife out myself.

The long blade slid out of my flesh with a sickening wet slurp, scraping the bone on the way out, and hit the ground with a muted thump. More blood gushed out of the wound down my arm.

My eyes darted to Finn as I breathed heavily, who looked a mixture between sick, impressed and worried. I picked up the knife and pointed to Finn's jacket.

"May I?"

She nodded quickly with a curious expression on her face and took off her silver parka, handing it to me mutely.

I quickly cut through the material with my knife to make a makeshift bandage strip, much to Finn's protests, and took out the soft filling. I pressed the wool to the knife wound to staunch the flow of blood, then I wrapped the soft cloth around my arm to hold it in place.

Before I could ask what Finn was doing here, a cough caught my attention.

A burst of spontaneous anger fuelled the force of the knife flying through the air that I threw, it hit just below Merida's ear, pinning her to the tree behind her by her hair, but as I turned around to approach her and inflict any more damage on that pretty face of hers, she just disappeared.

No poof, no flash of light.

Gone.

Son of a bitch.

"She can teleport?!" Finn's awed voice asked behind me, I bit the inside of my cheek to prevent me from screaming in rage.

"It seems so." I answered quietly, my voice taking on an eerily quiet and calm tone.

"Are you okay-" She started, but I was already walking back to my home, not wanting to talk in this state.

"Near? Where are you going?" She began to jog behind me as I kept up my quick pace.

"I'm far too angry to hold a conversation right now, Finn. I'll maybe check with you guys tomorrow." I deadpanned, not turning around or stopping.

"Okay. Stay safe Near." She stopped following me, getting the message, her hesitant footsteps heading in the opposite direction.

"Thanks for saving me Finn." I suddenly said, turning around to watch her go. She stopped and turned her head to smile at me weakly.

"My pleasure." She replied.
