Everything hurts. I try to move, but can't. I push my eyes open, even though they feel heavier than a thousand bricks. A bright white light burns my eyes and I can't move my hand to shield them.
"Here, let me get that." A sweet ladie's voice says as she moves the light away.
I look around the room and see everything is white. I must be back in the Haven. The room is small and there are shelves with different doctor tools lining the wall.
"Where am I?" I ask the lady.
I can see her more clearly now, she has short wavy red hair and bright blue eyes. On her head is a little white hat and her outfit is just like a nurse's.
"Well after your nasty fall, we brought you here to fix you up!" She replies cheerfully, "How did you end up falling out of the window anyhow?"
Don't tell her the truth. Lie.
"I slipped." I lie, listening to the voice in my head. I can feel some strength coming back to my body and limbs, and try to move my hand.
"Oh, dear you shouldn't move...the doctor said you need to keep still for at least three days." I put my arm back down and continue to look around the room.
"By the way, you missed the Calling," The nurse says, "and funny thing, you were actually the lucky one to be Called," I just stare as she continues to speak, "but since you were in the operation room, we had to choose another lucky duck...I think his name was Raven 50 something."
"Raven 52 Nova." I correct her.
"Oh yes, that's right, Raven 52 Nova. But don't worry, when the doctor gets back you will still be Called." She grabs her clipboard from the counter and writes something before leaving the room.
You need to escape NOW!
I'm starting to doubt the voice in my head. Especially after it almost killed me.
Please, you need to escape! You don't understand! I know what they're going to do to you!
The voice in my head sounds frantic and worried. What are they going to do? What's the Calling? What did they do to Raven? I decide to listen to the voice and get off of the bed. Everything still hurts, but I push the pain aside.
Luckily, the nurse left the door unlocked. The halls are white, just like everything else, and I can hear people coming from another hall. I need to hide. To my left is a door, probably to a supply closet, and is unlocked. Quickly, I slip inside and shut the door.
White and blue doctors clothes brush against me as I wait for the footsteps and voices to pass. Wait a second...I pull one of the uniforms off it's hanger and slip it on. I see some white caps and put one on to cover my hair. I hear the voices getting closer and soon they pass by.
My hand grips the small handle of the door and opens it just enough to peer through. No one is in the hallway, but I can hear a frustrated person shouting in my room and know I have to hurry. I quickly get out of the closet and fast walk down the hall.
"The head doctor has finished his operation. Raven 52 Nova is now in his room."
"Should I check on him?" I hear two doctors talking and stop to listen in on the conversation.
"No, just have a nurse check on him...Hey, you there!" I point a finger to myself. Was he talking to me?
"Yes you, go check on the patient in room 63...Go!" I hurry and turn to run down the hall to find Raven's room.
There's no time, you need to leave now!
I ignore the voice in my head. I need to save Raven, even though I have no idea what I'm saving him from. I fly by the rooms until I finally see his, room 63. Without knocking I burst through the door.
"Dove?" Ravens black hair is in a tangled mess as though he just woke up and his blue eyes look dazed.
"Raven are you ok?"
"I-I don't know..." He looks so scared and confused.
"Come on, we need to go." I rush over to his bed side and help him up. We have to hurry.
Raven seemed to gain more feeling in his body and is now running by my side. We turn multiple corners, but can't find a single door to get out.
Lift the tile, hurry! They're coming!
I look down, and sure enough there is a tile with a small handle on it. I quickly lift it open and let Raven climb down the ladder first. I can hear angry voices approaching, and hurry to get on the ladder. Without hesitation I shut the tile and quickly climb down the ladder to meet Raven.
The air is moist and the hall we are now in is rustic, dirty, and dark.
"Come on." I say to Raven and together we run forward through the hall until we reach another door.
"Dove, I don't feel right." His eyes show he looks super dizzy, like he is going to pass out any moment.
We have to go faster, if he passes out I won't be able to carry him with me. I grab his arm and try to help him run faster.
Keep going straight, then take a right. There will be a vent in the ceiling. Climb through it, it will bring you outside.
I listen to the voice and continue running straight. On the next place I can turn I take a right, and sure enough there is a vent in the ceiling. I hope Raven is awake enough to climb. The vent isn't hard to open because of how old it is, and I push Raven to climb up first.
"Raven you have to climb up!"I whisper in a rushed tone. We are running out of time, I can feel it.
Raven makes it up and helps pull me up also. I take a look at our surroundings. It looks almost like a jungle? There are all kinds of bright green plants and trees along with strange animals.
No time to check out the scenery, run straight there will be somebody waiting.
I listen to the voice, but how does it know these things? Raven is starting to stumble and even I am starting to feel very dizzy. My vision is starting to blur as I see a car coming into view. Strangely, I recognize this car. As we get closer I realize it's a jeep, the same jeep from my dream.
"Aaliyah, hurry!" A voice calls from the jeep. I let Raven get in the car first, then fall fast asleep the second I collapse in the car.
