Chapter Two

I woke by the shuffling in the seat beside me. "What?" I muttered.

I slowly opened my eyes and turned my head from the window.

My eyes probably were bulging from my head. Sitting before me was a beautiful specimen of a man, er boy. He was probably about my age, with close cropped blonde hair, the color of sunshine, and a finely chiseled, tan face with a perfect nose, perfect chin, and well, perfect everything. His eyes, Oh gosh, his eyes. They were like a pool of endless green's swirling together in harmony. Gorgeous!

I was probably staring at him with dumbfounded look on my face, because he looked at me funny and scooted over closer to the edge of his seat. It finally registered that I should stop staring. I blushed and quickly looked down at my lap.

As soon as I looked down, I sneaked a few peeks at him while he was looking away. Boy, was he fit. He had one great figure, from what I could see anyway; I was at a difficult angle.

A few minutes passed, before I finally got up enough courage to say something. I looked up from my lap.

"My name is um, Karen. What's yours?" I blurted.

I was hoping that he would answer so things wouldn't be awkward between us during the whole bus ride. No such luck.

He didn't so much as give me a sidelong glance.

I nodded slowly. Ok, so he didn't talk much. I wasn't going to let that stop me. So I decided to ask him one more question. "So, where are you headed?" I said.

He just sat there. Still looking straight ahead, practically hugging his arm rest.

He must still be freaked out about me staring at him. So would I, of course, I did look kind of stalker-ish.

Since he STILL wasn't answering, I thought that maybe he didn't hear me. So I tried again.

"Umm, where are you headed??"

I was kind of mumbling, because I didn't know if he heard before, and I didn't want to seem any less creepy than I was all ready.

He didn't turn to me, but a smile started slowly creeping onto his face. He was either ignoring me, or he didn't care, and just thought of it as 'funny'.

Then it hit me.

What if he didn't speak English???? That would be so terrible! My first crush, and I can't even speak to him!!

I'm might be able to ask, just in case, he didn't actually speak English. . .

I looked at him again, and he looked at me, FINALLY!!

I cautiously started to ask. "Do you speak English??" I said it quickly and looked around to see if anyone heard my question.

   He stared at me blankly.

Aw man!! How was I supposed to talk to him, if he couldn't speak English??

"Uum. . " I moved my hands in a circular motion. "EN-GLI-SH?? Do. You. Speak, uh, EN-GL-ISH???" I emphasized each syllable in the word 'English'.

I tried again. "English?? You know? EN-GLI-SH??" I shook my head. "No?" I gave way to an exasperated sigh.

He cocked his head to one side like a little puppy. It was kind of adorable actually. .
