"Come on dear, it's the first day of school, you have to get up." I open my eyes and see Joel sitting at the edge of my bed. "Get ready, my dear. Moriah's making you breakfast," he says, leaving.
After a couple minutes of convincing, I force myself out of bed. I put on the dress I had planned to wear today. Throwing my dirty laundry in the hamper, I walk downstairs. I'll finish getting ready after I have some food.
Moriah made sausage, and French toast. She slides me a plate, and a mug of tea. "¿Cómo dormiste? How did you sleep, mija?" She asks. I nod, "Pretty well. Yesterday was a busy day." She grins, "Yeah. Well, I have to get to the studio early this morning. Joel will drop you off, and somebody will pick you up, okay?" I nod. She plants a kiss on my forehead and leaves, "Have a great first day! Be yourself!"
"Well, I guess it's just you and me," Joel says, sitting next to me. "Joel, I'm ridiculously nervous," I tell him. "Hey, priceless, you're going to have such a good first day, okay?" He asks. I nod, "I guess so." Joel shakes his head, "No, you have to believe it, my dear. God will give you a good day." I nod, "I believe it." He smiles, "Good. Now finish eating, and go get ready!"
Twenty-five minutes later we're at the school. Joel walks inside with me. "Okay, Andria. Let them know you by your love. Bring something to this school they've never seen before," he tells me. I hug him, "Bye Joel. Thank you so much." He nods, "You're welcome. If you need anything text me, okay? I love you." I kiss his cheek, "Love you too. Thanks for the encouragement." He gives my hand one more squeeze, "Don't forget that you're priceless."
I walk into the school office. Mrs. Holt is waiting. "Good morning, Andria. Here is your schedule," she says handing me an envelope. I smile, "Thank you." She nods, "You're welcome. Lucy should be here any minute. She is a junior, but has mostly the same classes as you. She'll be showing you around."
As if on cue, Lucy walks through the door. "Sorry I'm late, Mrs. Holt," she says. Mrs. Holt nods, "It's okay. Lucy, this is Andria. Andria, this is Lucy." Lucy shakes my hand, "Come on, and I'll show you around."
"So, did you just move to town?" She asks me. I nod, "Sort of. I'm staying with a family friend for a while, since my mom is away for work." She smiles, "Well, I'm glad your here."
We go through all the morning classes together, and soon it's lunch time. "You can sit with me and my friends," Lucy says. I nod, "I'd love to!" We go through the line and get our food, and sit down at a table with two other girls.
"This is Eden, she's a junior like me. And this is Wren, she's a sophomore," Lucy says. I smile, "It's nice to meet you, I'm Andi."
I take a bite out of my food, "Ew! This tastes nothing like Moriah's food!" Eden laughs, "Yeah, we don't exactly have five star food here." I grin, "I see that. I'm gonna text my friend quickly."
"Hey, it's lunch, and the days going great. I've made some friends. Remind me to have Moriah pack me a lunch tomorrow, this food is terrible!" I send it.
He replies. "I'm glad, darling. Can't wait to hear all about your day once you're home. Enjoy the rest of your day."
I put my phone in my pocket. "Did you just move into town?" Eden asks. "I'm staying with a family friend for a while. My mom's away for work," I reply. Wren nods, "That's cool. You should come to our youth group meeting tomorrow night."
"I'll have to ask Joel, but if we're not doing anything, I'm sure he'd let me come," I tell them. "Joel?" Lucy asks. "Him and his wife, Moriah, are my legal guardians currently," I reply.
"It would be cool if you could come, since that's where we all go," Eden says. "I'll ask tonight, and give you guys an answer tomorrow," I tell them. We continue talking about movies, books, and music for the rest of lunch.
