A boy walks down the road towards violet city. He was a bit nervous of course, but he kept his eyes on his phone. He couldn't afford to do this any other way. There's a strange facility not too far off the outskirts of the town, with many in black uniforms inside. Those, surprisingly, were the good guys. Well, unsurprisingly to him – things weren't always as they seemed. He could feel he was getting closer. 'Brace for impact.' He reminds himself. He had headphones on, playing loud music, so he'd have an excuse for not being aware of his surroundings. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees dirt turn to solid pavement. Any moment now, either he'd get tackled or get knocked unconscious. Fearing for the possibility of concussions, he raised his head up to look, just to see a random grunt tackle him. Well, at least it wasn't a brick this time. Well, he wasn't sure it even was a brick last time? What was it?
He gets dragged to a holding cell, and he goes without much of a fuss. He just puts a confused look on his face, and he didn't need to fake a flinch or act scared when the cell door is slammed shut after his pokéballs are taken away. He took a moment to calm himself, taking his beloved Celebi doll he managed to swipe off his bag before they took it away and holding it close to his chest.
"Calm down, calm down, calm down..." He says softly to himself.
He begins to pet the Celebi doll as he waits, minutes starting to feel like hours as they passed by. After a while, he hears the cell door open.
"Get up. Fath- uh, the boss wants to see you." A girl with purple hair and a black coat and skirt more formal than grunt's attire says in a slightly monotone voice, her Houndoom growling at him the entire time.
He simply nods, gets up, and follows. He knows who she is. He still can't help but smile when he looks at her. He wonders if he should spook her by saying her name, or greeting her Houndoom, Vris. He feels it might spoil things, so he simply holds his hand back to the Houndoom making sure he won't run. Vris sniffs, still growls after, but a little quieter that time. The silence was getting to him, and so he decided to speak.
"Hey, so... uh... how are things...?" he asked.
"Fine." The girl answers, still sounding harsh.
Hayune just nodded, and decided to keep his mouth shut after failing to start a conversation several times. They soon arrived at the Boss' office. He knew the name of the boss, though. He knew many people from the black uniform team.
"I've got the trespasser right here, dad." The girl says, having Vris shove the boy forward.
"Good work, daughter. Could you please stand by the door? A little extra security never hurts." The boss says.
"Sure." She responds, going to stand back by the door. And after a few moments, Hayune couldn't help but risk messing things up.
"Hey, Silver. How's life as a Rocket Boss?" he asks, smiling and waiting for the realization to hit.
It hits nearly instantly. "How do you know my name? This facility has remained a secret, and only a select few are able to know-"
"And your daughter's name is Azure, and your wife's name is Crystal – Hey, where is she by the way?" the boy continues, his grin just growing wider.
"Who the hell are you, and why do you know all this? State your name and business here, or else I'll have to assume you're with that wretched witch running the other team." Silver growls, his Weavile poised on the desk and ready to pounce at any moment.
"My name is Hayune, my dad is your friend who's been wondering where you've been hiding. Sad that I didn't really look where I was going, He really wants to talk again. But it really is good to see Azure again. It's been like what, five years? I'm lucky to remember all your names, huh? Heheh..." Hayune says, nervous about Weavile staring him down.
Silver glares him down, searching for resemblance. Hayune then remembered the one giveaway detail about his heritage.
"OH! I forgot, I'm still wearing my green contacts... I wish these color corrective things came in clear lenses... those never seem to be in stock anymore!" Hayune says, quickly scrambling to take them out.
As soon as they're out, Silver can tell it was no joke. One bright gold eye on the right, one split pink and blue on the left. This was a genetic defect leaving him colorblind to most shades of green and yellow. Silver sighs, a little out of relief, and a bit out of frustration.
"I still don't understand how you manage to get yourself in such unusual situations. You definitely are Gold's son. Where did you get those contacts? There's a few of my grunts that could use some like that. Also, how do they work?" Silver says.
Hayune places them back in fast. "Well, they're made by a company in Unova, so shipping is a bit pricey...and they help you see ALL the colors you can see, and apparently they help your eyes like correct themselves very slowly and I'll be able to see all the colors in a few years without them, but I dunno if that was just some marketing bullshit they made up to sell more. But I kinda fell in love with the color green when I was able to see it! The ilex forest has soo much green, and it looks way less depressing and scary now!" Hayune says happily.
"Sorry to ruin the fun, but... you still trespassed, Hayune. Dad, wasn't your original intent to figure out some sort of punishment or payoff for him?" Azure asked, walking up beside him.
"Well, I suppose. But he is technically a family friend, so it won't be too severe. Azure, I know your escort has been asking for some days off..." Silver said.
"Dad, my escort was trained. Hayune... just isn't." Azure reminds him.
"I know that, but... do you remember his mother? Hayune, were you ever taught how to use weapons?" Silver asked.
"I carry a baseball bat. Mom tells me I have a good swinging arm... or something. I don't play baseball often." Hayune says.
"Sure, but wasn't she always so... like... sweet?" Azure asked her father.
"Azure, I'll tell you about it later... Hayune, what Pokémon do you have currently?" Silver asks.
"Well, Valentine evolved into a Sylveon, I've got Drifty the Drifloon, Babs the Mareep, Meowthkara, and Lappy. They're all pretty strong!" Hayune answers.
Azure stayed in a confused silence, trying to think about Hayune's mother and wonder what sort of things she could've taught Hayune. Silver assigned Hayune the job, and told him he starts tomorrow and must grab what he feels necessary to bring to the facility, he will get a room, and work for a few days. He gladly accepts, and after a while a grunt gives him back his belongings and escorts him out. Azure watched him depart from the office window, trying her best to recall childhood memories of him. She felt like there was something important about him. Something she just had to know.
When he's out of sight, she steps away. Maybe she'll remember it better some other time.
