Bliss

Harley smiled at The Joker as he wiped at his eyes.
"You have to breathe through your mouth."
He turned to her, eyes burning with unshed tears.
"Only you would tell me after I cut the onions."
She smiled sheepishly, "if I told you you would have made me do it."
"Yes but then I wouldn't be crying."
"You like seeing me cry?"
"You'd be breathing through your mouth."
Harley laughed and the joker followed.

"Here." He stepped toward her and pushed the onions into the saucepan.
"So what's the plan for tomorrow?"
He stepped back and Harley stared into the sizzling pan. Unconsciously her hands rose to the bump in her abdomen.
"Ultrasound at eleven, then you're free."
"Free to take you to lunch?"
She turned her eyes toward him and smiled.
His heart pounded in his chest.
"Sure."
He leant toward her, and pulled her close with a hand around her waist. He bent his head and pressed a kiss to her forehead.
She lifted her head gently, and his lips were a whisper against hers.

She gasped suddenly and the joker pulled away.
"What's wrong?"
In response Harley grasped his hand and pressed it to her stomach.
The jokers breath was stolen as he felt the child- his child, kick.
"He's a fighter." Harley's voice was happy, and she stood on her toes to kiss him.
"He?"
"I can feel it."
Their lips met. And for a sweet, short moment, Harley believed this was bliss.

Then Harley became aware of a sweet, sharp smell.
"Shit." She swore at the same time he did, and they both turned toward the pan of burnt onion, they both turned back to each other.
"Extra flavour?" The joker suggested, his voice strained.
"There's no other onions so I hope so."
A laugh bubbled from within the jokers chest, a laugh that she echoed, a laugh that was followed by a kiss.

"I love you."
"I love you too."

Not very good or long but I've always liked sad stuff better, but I have to get better at romance, hopefully it'll get you guys through the week.
