Des was cleared at the final MPI station and turned a corner to find the Security door. He typed in a series of numbers into the keypad and the door swept open.
Inside, a wall of computer screens greeted his eyes. A pair of men turned from the screens to face him, and one of them stood.
"My name is Desmond Black, I was told to check in with security."
The older of the two men stood and tapped a few buttons on a tablet he held with his right hand before holding it up in front of Des's face.
"We need to scan your iris pattern to confirm your identity. Please look into the camera and do not blink."
A few seconds passed before a green bar lit up the screen. The man glanced at the device one more time before speaking again.
"Looks like you're good to go. You need to report to the Debrief Director now. Room 437 in the East Quadrant."
"Thank you," replied Des. He walked out the door and began to proceed through the halls.
As he walked, Des began to notice there were less people the close he went to the East Quadrant. By the time he reached the room he was looking for, there was only one other person in the hall with him.
He punched in the key code, looked into the retinal scanner, and pressed his hand to the fingerprint scanner. The door opened to reveal a dark room with a large table surrounded by chairs, and a large holographic projection setup in the center. There was already a group of seven people seated around the table, with one person standing in front of the screens. All of them turned to face him.
No one spoke as he walked in and found a seat. They all recognized him, and as he scanned the faces in the room, he recognized all of them. It took him a moment to realize who they were, but when he did, his eyes widened.
Seated across from him was the Re-Kill Squad, the team that had gone into Turkey with his father.
They were supposed to be dead.
