I was racing through the streets, jumping over trash cans and climbing over fences. I could hear shouts, those of the angry government officials chasing me, and those of the people I shoved past while I ran.

I was running fast but I wasn't tired yet, because John had been teaching me survival skills since I was 8. John Taylor, that is. He took me in when I had nowhere else to go, and he taught me survival skills like how to increase my running stamina, and how to scavenge for (and in some cases steal) food, to name some. Oh, don't get riled up about how stealing is wrong. It's just life. Besides, I only steal when it's my only option, and I only steal from more fortunate people. If they can afford the newest iPhone, then I can take their cheeseburger.

"Stop right there!" A government official yelled at me.

Ha! Like that's gonna happen. I turned a corner and ended up in an alleyway, like I knew I would. I know these streets like the back of my hand, one of the advantages I have over the government officials chasing me. I dodged the trash bags and jumped over a stray cat that was in my way.

I could still hear the footsteps of the officials chasing me, so I sped up as I turned the corner. And I ran straight into a boy, knocking him down onto the ground along with me.

He looked my age, but he was taller than I was by about an inch. He had messy blonde hair and sky blue eyes, and a tan that most girls would've considered hot. But I didn't have time for an analysis.

He laughed. "We just met and you're already falling for me!" He winked at me flirtatiously. "We just must be meant for each other."

"In your dreams." I said, getting up and getting ready to leave when I heard his annoying voice again.

"I'm Noah Ross," He smiled at me. "But you can call me babe."

"No, thanks." I rolled my eyes. "Look, I don't have time to chat-"

"That's too bad, I was really enjoying this moment we were having together," he said flirtatiously. "I hope the stars will align for us to meet again, darling."

He winked at me. Ugh, that jerk.

"I hope not." I said, and then I spotted the government officials directly behind me, catching up at an alarming speed. "Gotta go."

I dashed off, and I didn't give my encounter with Noah Ross a second thought.
