Chapter 9 (relief)

Shadow POV

*beeeeeppppppppppp*

The piercing noise broke through my consciousness, making me painfully remember what had happened an hour prior. I left the room after creating a puddle on the floor. Normally I'm not as emotional, but it broke my heart to see Sonic laying on the bed in an eternal sleep.

I feel like we are playing Snow White. I'm Prince Ferdinand, Snow White is Sonic, Tails is the Seven Dwarves rolled into one, the Evil Queen is Eggman and the crow/old lady the Queen turns into is Scourge. ((don't ask how this works because I have no clue)) I wiped tears from my cheeks when I remembered the babies. I rushed back in to check on the kids. I sent another round of chaos energy through her stomach and I gasped to receive faint heartbeats. I rushed out of the room to Tails, who was undoubtedly blaming himself for everything that had happened.

"I did this to Sonic, I should've been faster with the re-building. I'm to blame... for everything."

Tears were streaming down his muzzle like a waterfall, never ending. I put my hand on his shoulder gave him an urgent look. He wiped at his tears uselessly, smearing grease and oil on his face before he ran with me to Sonic.

"the babies are alive Tails! They're alive!" I said, wiping the forming tears.

Tails looked at her stomach excitedly, gently pressing his hand onto her stomach, waiting for a kick. He pulled away excitedly.

"they're alive! They're alive!"

Tails started hovering around on his two tails. Then he stopped abruptly.

"if the babies are alive... that must mean that Sonic's alive too!"

Sure enough, as Tails said those words, the Heart Rate Monitor gave a small beep before returning to a flat line.

Tails and I looked excitedly at each other before running out to find anything to bring Sonic's heart rate up before it stopped for good.

Tails brought out a Defibrillator, hurriedly setting up beside Sonic whereas I took a seat beside Sonic, whispering encouraging words to make sure she'd come back.

"CLEAR!"

Tails pushed the pads down onto Sonic's chest and her body flared up. I warned him to be wary of the babies and then he repeated the process, until the heart rate monitor picked up.

I breathed a sigh of happiness and relief when her heart rate returned to normal. I hugged Sonic like there was no tomorrow, rubbing circles around her tummy too. I felt her arm wrap around my torso weakly. I raised my head to find that Sonic's gorgeous emerald green eyes were open. She was giving me an apologetic look. I didn't care as I slammed my lips against her, showing her the pain of what I felt while she was gone... my heartbreak... my sadness... it was all present in the kiss.

After what seemed to be an eternity of conflicting emotions, I pulled away, looking into her eyes. Sonic reached her hands up and cupped my cheeks, guiding my face back to her own. We kissed again, reconnecting our positive and negative emotions... getting up to speed with each others mental state.

"Hey Shadow... Your crying..."

I guess I was crying, I brought my hand to my face to find my cheeks were wet. I began to laugh. In relief and happiness. I guess my laugh was contagious because Sonic started laughing too. We laughed and laughed till our stomachs began to hurt.

"Crap, I need to *wheeze* stop. I could hurt the *wheeze* babies." Sonic said, wiping tears from her eyes.

Her stomach was the tiniest bit bigger, showing that the kids were alive, kicking and growing. I patted her stomach softly, before leaving my hand on the belly, waiting for a kick. Three came and Sonic winced a little bit.

"Are you alright Sonic?" I asked.

Her facial expression changed from a grimace to a soft smile. She was about to reply when Tails slammed into her, tails swishing around happily creating a small breeze.

"I'm so sorry Sonic! I thought I killed you! I...I..." He didn't finish before more tears flowed from his eyes.

Sonic wrapped her arms around him and whispered something in his ear that set him off giggling. They continued to talk and I walked out with a smile on my face. When I closed the door to give them privacy, I was confronted by someone I did not want to see.

"Mephiles." I greeted coldly.

His snake eyes looked angry and amused. If he had a mouth I'm sure that it'd be twisted into an evil toothy grin.

"You know Shadow. You aren't going to be able to protect her or get back to her all the time. There'll come a point in time when you can't save her."

"THE HELL DO YOU WANT MEPHILES?! WHY ARE YOU HERE?!"

Normally I don't loose my cool but Mephiles has that thing about him that makes my head want to explode. He wagged a finger and "tsk"d me, making my blood boil even more. It seemed like I was a volcano that was about to erupt.

"I'm here to warn you that Eggman and Scourge were just the beginning. More people are going to go after you and Sonic and I can guarantee that Sonics scare by dropping dead for an hour isn't going to be the most scary thing Shadow. You aren't going to always be the one protecting her Shadow. At some point you'll need protection too."

"THE HELL DO YOU MEAN?!" There's the eruption.

I was about to give him a right cross when he chaos controlled somewhere. I was fuming. I punched the wall out of anger. The glint of "all knowing" never left his eyes and that invisible smirk seemed present.

I walked back inside, embracing Sonic and letting her ease me out of anger.

"Hey Shadow, you know you can tell me what happened. You were pretty angry there."

"It's alright. I just need to think things over for awhile."

Okokokokokokok I deserve to die for leaving you guys on a cliffhanger like that. Reason 1. I didn't update this for like 5 months. Reason 2. I killed Sonic when I still need Sonic to be alive... I might kill her later... Hahaha just kidding... Or am I? Ok moving on.

I'm sorry and I'm also losing inspiration for Sonic stories... WAHHHHHH! I need ideas is what I'm getting at. If you have any can you please PM me? I shall be extremely grateful for it. I'll also mention in the chapter that said part was your idea and you should have some credit for it.

Also sorry that my chapters are getting shorter and shorter... I do have a life outside of wattpad ya know.
