-Bernadette’s Time-
Before I knew it, June has come and left. Since it’s the start of July, it could only mean two things here in Aceltoria.
Track and Field Day and Nutrition Month.
The former would be next week already, while the latter would be celebrated at the end of the month. The Track and Field Day will be the first part of the Intramurals, which will be on September. And now, we are burning with passion to win the over-all championship cup for both the Intramurals and the Nutrition month.
Currently, all the Seniors are gathered again for the Track and Field day of our school which will be happening on the second Friday of July. We thought we couldn’t have it this year due to the renovations, but good thing that it was done just in time for our schedule. The entire high school department with the students and teachers from Grades Four, Five, and Six will get to go to the Provincial Stadium for a whole day activities in track and field. The little ones? They get to have a mini Track and Field day in the school. It’s the only time that they can rule the school. We get the exclusive right to sell foods and stuff to increase our funds which we badly need if I may add.
After assigning all of us our respective jobs for that day, we get the chance to enlist our names to be the official participants in the events.
“Bams, why did you sign up for the 800 meters dash? It’s two rounds of running around that huge oval!” Jams exclaimed as I wrote my name on the list of players for that event.
“It’s better than sprinting. You know I don’t want to join the sprint events after what happened to me in first year.” Yeah. It's a terrible experience. I don’t want to talk about it.
“Suit yourself. Think you can handle it?”
“Summer and I have our walks. It’s already practice.”
I saw Caleb signing for the high jump and the 1200 meters dash. Wow. Talk about athletic. Alyana, our Seniors’ Organization president, clapped her hands to get our attention.
“Okay Seniors, let’s do our best! Meeting adjourned.”
We gathered our bags and left. The girls and I went to the mall to relax for a while, and then we went to our separate ways. The classes continued in the succeeding days and then our awaited day came.
“Come on girls, let’ go!” Jams shouted.
Alexie, Justine, Gail, and I decided to go with Jams to the stadium using her van. Carpool is cool and environment friendly too. And so we’re like hitting two birds with one stone. We get to bond and chat while saving Mother Earth as well. Go figure.
Despite that the time is still 6:00 in the morning, we didn’t feel sleepy at all. I guess it is due to the excitement and adrenaline streaming through our veins right this moment. Plus the coffee... and chocolates. We chatted throughout the ride and then before we knew it, we have arrived.
The entire fourth year students are supposed to come earlier since we have to set up the booths and sound systems. I was assigned at the waffle station - much to my delight.
