I sat in the hospital next to the incubator when the doctor came in, I had been here all night sammi had, had a bad term so hear I sat on the hospital chair just watching her as she breathed she was hooked up to a machine, she was struggling to breath by herself I hadn't slept at all while I was here I just wish tom could be here, but he had to be their for josh. I placed my hand on the incubator as I stood off the chair "mummy has to go now baby, ill see you later, yeah" I said before I headed to school in yesterdays uniform.
I headed to registration and fought to keep my eyes open "sophie, a word" tom said as I went ot leave the classroom "you haven't been home have you" he asked "we share a bed tom, I think you would of known" I said "im sorry I haven't been there for you, for sammi"" " tom your her dad I know that josh needs you but so does sammi, she struggling to breath on her own you should see her she doesn't look like a baby shes got wired hooked up to her and everything" I said as I felt the tears in my eyes "hey, come here" he said pulling me into a hug.
At break I walked into the common room when miss boston walked in "sophie, I need your help with the newspaper article" she said "no offence miss but I have better things to do, to worry about" I said "please, come on you are the only one is good enough for this, your English is great I need a good writer" she said "alright maybe it will keep my mind of things" I said as I sat at the keyboard. I sat in the library as I typed away on the article "what your article about?" asked my dad "hope, having hope even when things go downhill" I said "that's a good sentiment" he said "yeah, I don't know I feel like a bit of a hypocrite I mean I cant even follow my own advice" I said "maybe you'll do well on listening to your own advice" he said "maybe" I said as I saved the article and walked off.
I found tom in his office at the end of the day "hey" I said as I walked over to him "grantly's wife died" he said I walked over to him and he took my hand "your worried about josh" I said and he nodded before he pulled me onto his lap and I placed my head on his chest "you need to tell josh, its his own illness" I said and he nodded "what is it worth" he said "hes your son tom, and hes not stupid he has the right to know" I said and he rested his head on top of mine "i could just stay here forever, forget the worries we have, the worries about our kids" I said "i know" he said "ill go to the hospital with you tonight we'll go see our daughter" he said. After school we went out in the carpark and met up with josh "great essay josh" I said "yeah sometimes I forget your not a kid anymore" tom said "thanks" josh said "we'll your taller than me for one" tom said "its not hard, besides sophie is even taller than you if she wears heels and she a little shrimp" josh said "shut it you" I said as I headed towards the car and left josh and tom to talk. "what now, hospital?" I asked "yes, only for a few hours than your going home to sleep soph, you absolutely knackered" tom said and I nodded not wanting to argue with him.
"how is she?" I asked the doctor once I got to the hospital "good, shes improved and it looks like shes learning to breath on her own, were going to take the machine off and see if she can breath without it" he said and I smiled "see what did I tell you" tom said "then can we take her home" " well, we would like to keep her in a few days just for observation if all is successful I don't see why not" he said and I smiled at tom "she'll be coming home" I said "yes, then we can be a family" he said.
