Hello again my friends! So this is just a short sequel to The Vacation, I hope you enjoy it :)It happened about 4 years after that vacation that started everything.
Dean dropped out of college and worked two jobs, one full time one part time, so that they had enough money to live on.
He wasn't happy, but he tried to convince Cas that everything was okay - because he loved Cas and wanted him to be happy.
For a while it worked, but then things changed.
It started out slowly, Dean would start coming home after particularly hard days at work - and instead of sitting down with Cas like they usually did, he would immediately find some alcohol and get drunk.
At first Cas tried to talk to him, telling him that this wasn't going to solve anything.
However he quickly realised that when Dean was in one of his 'moods' it was better just to leave him be.
He never physically hurt Cas, but he never listened - he just ignored him or said he didn't know what he was talking about.
Sometimes Cas wondered if it would just be easier if Dean straight out told him that they were done.
It wasn't like that every night though, some nights Dean would come home and it would be like when they first got together.
They would sit down in candle light to have dinner, and then after they would cuddle on the couch watching TV or just sit and talk.
Sometimes, they even danced. They would put one of the mixed tapes their family liked to make them on and dance like there was no tomorrow
Sometimes they would just dance to the sound of Deans voice, singing in time to their heartbeats.
But over the next few months these nights grew fewer, and the drunken periods between them grew longer.
................
Dean's late. Is he okay? Did he try and drive home? Is he alive? Does he even care that I'm worried about him?
These thoughts bounced around in Cas's head as he paced the living room, waiting for Dean to come home.
He glanced at the clock, 1:38am. He's often late, but rarely this late.
He doesn't care.
That was the worse part, Cas knew Dean didn't care anymore - but he still waited around for things to change.
No more waiting.
Cas abruptly stopped his pacing. How long? How long could he hold onto this hope that this would get better?
He sometimes dreamed about how things used to be, it was easy and fun - they were in love.
And now? Now that's all it is, a dream.
His mind made up, Cas strode into their shared room and pulled out a bag, filling it up with as much of his things as he could fit. He could come back tomorrow while Dean was at work and get more.
He took the bag back into the living room and sat on the couch with it.
Waiting, waiting.
................
Dean arrived less the half an hour later, unsurprisingly drunk.
"Cas, wud you doin ub?" he slurred as he plopped down on the couch next to Cas.
Cas stood on shaking legs, trying to put some space between them. Deans eyes crossed as he tried to look up at him, clearly confused.
"I'm leaving, Dean. I'm sorry, I just can't do this anymore." Cas told him firmly and his look of confusion grew.
"You can't" his words were clearer now and he looked lost.
"And why not?" Cas challenged with a sigh, it would have been so much easier if he had just left a note.
"Cause. I love you" he looked less confused now and more bored, like Cas was a stupid child throwing a tantrum.
This broke any self control Cas had left and he grasped his bag tightly, turning to the door.
"That's the problem, you might love me, but you don't care about me. Goodbye Dean."
Cas started walking out - the last thing he heard was Dean calling his name and tripping as he tried to get up and follow him.
Cas walked through the streets aimlessly for a few minutes before a cab pulled up.
He got in and gave the driver Sam and Gabriel's address numbly, every part of him wanting to go back, but knowing in his heart that he had made the right decision.
As he watched the streetlights whizz by in the night air Cas felt a tear finally breaking free and running down his cheek.
This single tear was followed by another, and another, until there were thick streams pouring from his eyes.
