Emily

(Unedited)

As soon as she stepped foot in the club, Emily smelled the alcohol in the air. The place wasn't packed yet, but there were bodies everywhere. Some were up dancing with friends, or soon to be partners for the night, and others were sitting at tables and at the bar sharing drinks and stories. Up beat music played in the back ground, though Emily didn't know the current one.

"Hey, I'm going to go get a drink. Do you want to get a table?" Emily half yelled to Tiffany, who nodded and continued into the club with the girls in tow. The bar was modern, with machines that Emily had no clue what they were for. Once she got the bartender's attention, a petite woman with a few piercings, she ordered the normal drinks the girls started out with.

"I need 5 vodka shots, a strawberry daiquiri, two lime margaritas, a Hawaiian kiss, and your special. Start the tab under Emily Darnel." The woman nodded and got to work. Emily swayed to the music, closing her eyes as she left her body move. Her drinks were set onto a tray and she carried them back to her table.

"Aright everybody. First round!" Emily sat the drinks down accordingly. The girls cheered, happiness in the air. They all followed their routine and grabbed the shots first.

"One, two, three!" They all downed the vodka. Emily shivered, disliking the burning feeling she felt. She quickly grabbed her daiquiri to get rid of the taste and feeling. Emily was definitely not the strongest drinker. Tiffany had much more of a tolerance than her, despite her smaller size. Emily secretly wished she wasn't such a light weight, but it saved her money in the long run. They chatted about work and relationships, including Emily's lack of one.

"Girl, you know it's been at least a year since you've went on a date. Let alone get laid!" Emily cringed. Gina was even less of a drinker than her, and she had finished her margarita.

"Honey, maybe you shouldn't drink anymore. And I'm just fine without anyone." The truth was, Emily was still holding a grudge against the male gender for the relationship that failed in college. Tiffany knew this much, and couldn't quite understand why Emily didn't hop back on the dating band wagon. But when a man was your first and promised to be there for you until the end, then sleeps with multiple women, taping them together, you sort off get put off from men. Emily will never forget the heartache she felt after watching her fiancé have sex with other women on the videos she was sent. Now, seven years later and twenty-six years old, she was in no rush to be put back into a relationship that would end in another broken heart and months of rebound men with meaningless sex.

"Oh, hush! The night is young and you will not leave alone!" Gina didn't know exactly what happened, but all the girls new something went down long before they knew each other.

"Emily, as your friend, I really think you start dating more. You're over halfway to thirty and aren't getting any younger!" Tiffany spoke up, backing up the tipsy Gina. Emily scoffed.

"Whatever. I don't need, nor want a man in my life. But if it will get y'all off my back then I'll at least talk to a guy tonight. No promises." The girls cheered, and Tiffany clapped.

"Yay! Finally, my girl is getting back up on her horse!" Emily rolled her eyes and got up to get another shot. She would need it for tonight.

The night continued on, music blaring, the girls dancing together. It was forty passed midnight and Gina, Kari, and Marie had finally gone home, Kari with a woman she hit it off with. Tiffany, ever the faithful friend, stayed and flirted with guys as Emily began to loosen up, on her forth shot and second daiquiri. She was about to order her fifth when a man came up to her.

"Hello, I'm Charles. Would you like me to buy you a drink?" Emily was already tipsy and failed to smell the alcohol on the foreign man's breath. He came up close to her, looking into her green eyes and Emily giggled.

"Sure, I was actually just about to order one. I'd like another shot of vodka please." Her hair has since come out of its tie and was flowing around her, so she tucked a stand behind her ear. She looked over to a smiling Tiffany, who waved in excitement for her. The man ordered one from the bartender, along with a drink she didn't catch the name of for himself.

"So, have you come here with someone tonight?" His accent was a pleasant change from the men in this city.

"Just my friends. A good, old fashioned girl's night." He smiled.

"Then I am glad someone has not already picked up such a beautiful woman." Emily blushed, finally drinking the shot the bartender sat in front of her.

"I'm sure there are lots more here."

"But not as eye catching as you. That dress looks amazing on you." His hand came over to touch hers lightly, and Emily felt even more light-headed than before, slightly breathless at the compliment.

"Thank you."

Emily's reserve was becoming even less as they continued to talk. They moved over to a corner of the room to continue talking, where she found out he was here on business out of the country. He had a daughter with his ex-wife, who lives a state over in Virginia. Charles was charming and looking to move into this country for his little girl. It didn't take long for Emily to share a little of her own backstory, born and raised in this state. Average, lawful parents who pushed her to go to college and get out of the small town. Charles had continued to move closer to her throughout their conversation, and Emily let him, even moving closer herself.

Soon, Emily was half on Charles's lap and they were sharing passionate kisses and whispering to each other. The alcohol was weighing more on her system and she completely forgot the promise to herself to never go home with a man she just met again. Charles had had a few more drinks himself, and Emily decided they should go back to his hotel. Tiffany was nowhere to be found, no doubt running off with her own man. They got out and he led her to his car.

"Um, are you sure you should drive? Maybe we should get a taxi." Charles pulled her closer.

"Beautiful, do not worry. What I had was nothing compared to what I am use to. You have nothing to worry about." He kissed her lips lightly and opened the door for her. Emily hesitated, a little spark in the back of her mind reminding her that drinking at all was drunk driving and dangerous. She cast one more look into his soft brown eyes and got into the car. Once Charles climbed in, he kissed her hand, then started the engine and pulled out of the parking lot.

Car passed them, not many out at this time of night. He pulled onto a highway, heading slightly out of bigger part of the city. Emily slightly sobered up as more time passed and a heavy feeling of dread filled her stomach. She was just about to tell Charles to stop the car when the sound of screeching brakes filled her ears, followed by her own scream. The sound of crushing metal made her heart stop and a sudden burst of pain shot throughout her body. Moments later Emily's world went black.
