"Ugh! I am so jealous of you! The weekend must have been amazing. I want all the details, you, you, you slimy little snail!" Emily laughed and arched an eyebrow at her wonky best friend.
"So, I'm a slimy snail, huh? I guess I should just take this back then..." Emily pulled out a blue wrapped package with a purple "CHICAGO" on the top out from behind her and enjoyed the look of surprised excitement Tiffany's eyes held.
It was Friday. Jason and Emily had gotten back Monday, four days ago. No more talk of what happened Saturday night came up between them so they settled back into their normal routine, save for Emily now showering without a chaperone. Emily was content and Jason was back to his normal work, even picking up some more overtime shifts at the hospital again. She wasn't sure how she felt about that yet, but Emily occupied herself with friends, who had finally been able to come visit earlier in the week.
"Don't even think about it! Besides, you can't take it back, you're way too far away for that. Give me!" Emily gladly handed over the package, watching the wrapping fly off.
Tiffany opened the box the paper covered and found a small, beautiful jewelry box.
"Aw, it's so pretty! This is awesome." Emily smiled at her.
"Open it." She wasted no time opening the box, which held a mini box that jewelry came in. Inside was a sterling silver necklace with "Chicago girl" spelled out in sparkling letters. Hanging off that wording was also tiffany's name in an arch up to it. Emily had paid a considerable amount of money for that, which did come out of her own money. Well, the money her parents sent her when they found out she left the state.
"Emily, this is gorgeous. I can't believe you got me something like this."
"I knew you'd like it. I'm so awesome at picking out gifts." They laughed together and continued to chat until Jason came home. The girls paused as he walked into the living room, then collapsed onto the recliner. His eyes were closed when he let out a groan.
"Tough week?" Emily asked. Jason didn't move, but answered.
"I've gone soft, all that time working normal hours and taking a vacation. Not use to the work load anymore."
"You shouldn't over do yourself. It's not healthy." Emily spoke her concern.
"Honey, I did it for a long time before you came into my life and I'm just fine." Tiffany watched them with curiosity. Emily saw her look and knew she was going to have explaining to do.
"But, I am going to go shower. Can never be too careful when you're around sick patients half the day." Emily didn't really acknowledge it, just waited for her friend to start. Tiffany waited until Jason disappeared into his room.
"What happened between you, two? And Emily Olivia Darnell don't you dare leave anything out." Emily grimaced and sighed.
"There isn't much to tell honestly. He took me out that Saturday and I had a really great day. He got me books, and took me out to eat and to a movie. We got home late, and we talked about how I was getting better and I told him I needed to move out then. He told me he wasn't ready but I could be more independent. Then we went to bed." Tiffany wasn't buying it.
"That wasn't all, I know it and I know you. How dare you lie to me, now spill it."
"Ok, in between conversations we may have had a little bit of a slightly heated make out session. But It didn't lead to anything more. We both saw we had something but neither one of us is ready for a relationship." Tiffany leaned back from Emily.
"Uh huh, and I'm getting married." That made Emily laugh again. She doubted Tiffany would ever find someone to settle down with.

Tiffany eventually went home, after eating some of the chicken dinner that Jason made. Emily and Jason sat in the living room watching TV when he started a conversation.
"You know, I was thinking if you really wanted to work again you could write." Emily gave him a weird look.
"That's what I was talking about before. I could go see if the magazine has anymore positions opened up."
"No, Emily. I mean like, start writing novels. Take a shot at it, show it to my mom, and you may get a shot at being a published author." Emily waited for the punchline but Jason just looked to her expectantly.
"Are you kidding me? I don't have that kind of talent. There's no way I can do whole stories. I've tried before, I never make it through."
"Me and my mom were talking. You're talented enough to do it, and I'd be here every step of the way. At least give it shot." Emily shook her head, though she was interested. She had always wanted to write stories and that her idol told her she had talent and believed in her had given her a little bit higher level of confidence. But only a little.
"I don't even have the tools to write a story."
"You could use my laptop. I don't mind. I'd just have to delete stuff off of it. And we could get you a flash drive or something to store you work on."
"I don't know Jason.I'll think about it." He left her to her thinking then, and she did think. Shereally did want to try again. Maybe her accident had given her some kind ofinspiration. Or maybe it was a certain man in her life.
