"Emily, who's that?"

"A fucktard. A Bastard. An SOB. The bane of my fucking existence. He's also my fucking ex-fiancé."

"Oh." Jason automatically moved closer to her and moved his arm to hold onto her waist. The guy she was referring to – Cole – was now heading their way, with a female in tow.

"Emily. Holy hell, sweetheart, it's been a long time. What the fuck happened to you?" Emily's eyes turned to daggers.

"You have no right to call me that, you mother fucking prick ass hoe. And FYI, I was in an accident. Now, take your whore and get the fuck out." The woman behind him looked rather uncomfortable. She knew who Emily was.

"Come on, sweetheart. You're still holding a grudge? That was a different life ago. Why don't we get a chance to talk?"

"Oh, talk to you? Why in the fucking world would I even consider that? You're a fucking cheating bastard, and you didn't even have the decency to say sorry. Cole, I had to find out by watching sex tapes of you fucking half the girls on campus, while we were engaged! Now get the fuck away."

Jason stood shocked, which quickly turned to outrage. How could anyone do that to someone who was as beautiful and amazing as Emily? Instead of knocking the guys teeth in, which is what he so wanted to do, Jason pulled Emily a little closer, kissed her cheek, and said,

"Come on, dear. You don't need this. Let's just go home. He isn't worth your time or stressing over." Emily looked up to Jason, with watery eyes, and nodded. She let him lead her away, which was much easier now that she wasn't needing crutches. Cole said something, but they both ignored him as they quickly left.

Inside the car, Emily broke down. Jason was taking his time driving, letting her work through her emotions before he confronted her. After all, he knew about heartbreak. By the time that he finally pulled into the driveway, she was only hiccupping small sobs here and there. So, they went inside and Emily sat on the couch while Jason made her hot chocolate.

"How about we rent a movie on the TV, and just stay in the rest of the evening?" Emily just nodded and sipped on her drink. Jason picked a scary movie, which Emily was thankful for. She was not in the mood for anything that could possibly have romance in it. After about twenty minutes, Emily finally got over some of her feelings, for the time being.

"Thank you. For getting me out of there." Jason smiled.

"It wasn't a problem. I just wish I wouldn't have taken you to the mall in the first place. I had no idea you would run into something like that."

"There really wasn't any reason for him to be up here in the first place. Last I checked, he moved back down south. He didn't stay away nearly long enough for my liking though." Jason scooted closer.

"I don't know what it's like catching your soon to be husband cheating on you, let alone catch them in the act. But I understand the pain of being lied to and loosing something important." Emily turned toward Jason, putting her front very close to his side.

"I don't want to pry, so you don't have to say anything, but what happened between you and Carolyn? She still seems to be interested in you." He didn't move away, but took a deep breath.

"Well, about me having a child... I was going to be a father." Emily jerked slightly, not expecting that.

"Me and Carolyn were still in college; I had already been in med school for a while at this point. Something happened with her birth control, and she got pregnant. But, we argued a lot and she didn't want to raise a baby while we were in school. She also refused to quit. I tried to convince her we could do it, hell I even offered to take the baby once it was born so she didn't have to be a mother. Carolyn just refused to listen and against my wishing and in spite of my begging, one day not long after we found out she called me from the doctor's. And I was no longer going to be a dad."

Jason's voice had grown hoarse and tears spilled down his cheeks. Emily had never seen a man cry before, but her instincts kicked in and she pulled him to her, holding him. She couldn't imagine losing a child, even if that child wasn't born yet.

"I'm so sorry Jason. I guess we're just both a little bit damaged, eh?" Jason looked up from where his head rested on Emily's chest. Without another breath and no hesitation he kissed her. Emily swallowed back her shock in less than a second and let her mouth move with his. Cole, Carolyn, and the movie were forgotten as they took comfort in each other's touch and kiss. After a moment, Jason pulled away and looked into Emily's eyes.

"Emily, I think I'm falling for you." Emily pulled back a little and took a long look at Jason and the emotion in his eyes. Was she ready to open her heart to another man? After all, Jason had been there for her when not even her friends and family could be. He had nursed her back to health and so much more. So, Emily took a deep breath.

"I think I may be falling, too." A grin lite up Jason's face and he pulled Emily against him.

It had been a long journey, but fate had brought these two together. After an unfortunate accident, two unlikely souls, untrusting, and broken had found each other. In the end, they helped each other more than anyone else in their lives could.
