I looked otherworldly. My lips were never very full, but now they were perfect. My dark, purple hair accentuates my flawless, pale grey skin. I always had doe eyes, not perfect but pretty, now though they were absolutely flawless. Instead of the dull blue they once were, they have turned red, much like the woman's eyes, with cat-like slits for pupils. Except, unlike her rusty red eyes, mine were bright red, like the color of fresh blood.

After I finish admiring my appearance, I look to the woman and put the mirror in her outstretched hand. She must be able to tell I have many questions, because she says,

"Sit, child. I will tell you what has happened to you tonight and teach you the ways of our people from this point forward."

I sit awkwardly, still not used to my tail, on a chair-like rock. She moves to sit on a rock that resembles a bench. I can't help but notice how graceful she is. She has obviously accepted herself and carries out everything she does with dignity and grace.

She starts with, "How did you end up in the Tides, child?"

I begin to tell her the story of my childhood, growing up on a pirate ship with my family and being thrown overboard after Father passed.

"What of the brother you mentioned?"

My expression turns cold and I look to the wall behind her as I say, "He did nothing... like the yellow-bellied coward that he is."

When I look back at her face, I see understanding flash through her eyes. She nods and begins to explain my transformation.

"When they threw you overboard, they were ignorant to the power of the Tides, as all humans are. When a woman is thrown to sea over such trivial matters, such as luck or superstition, the Tides change her. Give her power. They freeze her heart, allowing her to access powers her emotions limited her from. Her legs change into a tail so she can easily navigate the currents. The powers change her though, her skin turns to a pale grey color because no heat runs through her body. Her eyes turn red and cat-like from the dark power in her veins. She is granted immortality if she follows through with the ritual needed to keep it."

I open my mouth to start my round of questioning, but she raises her hand effectively silencing me.

"Hush, child. All shall be revealed in time."

She swims to the farthest corner of the cave where kelp covers another opening. She moves the kelp aside and says,

"Rest now, child. You will need your rest because your training shall begin tomorrow."

I swim into the room, and am shocked to find a huge shell, which I'm guessing is the bed. Once I'm in the room, she releases the kelp and leaves me with my thoughts . I swim to the shell and lie down. Almost as soon as my head hits the soft flesh of the shell, my eyes droop and sleep takes me.

A/N: Sorry it took so long (if anybody was waiting, prolly not though...), I have an exam coming up in my classes and I've been living at the college for the past week really. But, this chapter is longer than the last one, so yeah!
