After getting approval from Vellamo and gawking at the beauty surrounding me, I enter the archway and go into to the city. Everything is like a city on the land, except instead of metal and wood, the buildings are made of coral and rocks. It's beautiful and the bio-luminescent squid and shrimp that float away accentuate the beauty of the city.
"Hurry along now, child."
I speed up to where Vellamo is and see her go through a door to a shop that says "Arina's Tide Shop". I follow her through the door and the shop is filled with everything! There are weapons (knives, scythes, etc.), mortars, pestles, bags, blankets, pillows and some other stuff in the back I couldn't see. I turn to Vellamo and give her a questioning look. She opens her mouth to say something when a muscular mermaid with a beautiful tail swims up and says,
"Vellamo, it has been too long, my friend!"
Her gravelly voice is laced with a thick Irish accent and her hair is a bright orange color, unlike our dark tresses. Her tail instead of the sharp pointed fins Vellamo and I have on our tails, hers has a flowing fin, like a goldfish, on the back and at the bottom. I also notice her eyes are different. Her eyes, while still holding to the cat-like structure, are a mossy green. And her nails are round and dull instead of long and sharp. Her skin is a lighter grey than our skin as well.
Vellamo turns and greets her friend with a firm shake of their forearms. I have never seen a greeting like this so I just stand behind Vellamo observing this new mermaid. She notices me in the background and swims over to me.
"Hi, my name is Arina and I own this shop. You must be a friend of Vellamo's."
She holds her hand out to shake, so I grab her forearm like I saw before.
"Yes, my name is Eurybia and Vellamo found me after my transformation."
"Ah a newbie, eh? Well, Vellamo knows the way of the Tides well, so listen and learn carefully..."
Vellamo decides to join the conversation and tells Arina how quickly I've taken to the Tides. Arina raises her brow and looks at me questioningly. I squirm a bit and they both chuckle. Vellamo asks Arina a question on where something is in the shop and goes to browse.
After Vellamo is out of earshot, Arina turns to me and whispers,
"Vellamo knows her stuff, but if you ever want to learn another option to master the Tides, you are always welcome here."
She swims off after that, leaving me in my confusion. What did she mean "another option"? I'll have to ask Vellamo later. I swim off to find her and see that she is in the very back of the shop. When I swim close enough to see what's back there, I gasp at what is laid out on the shelves.
A/N: Sorry about how long it has taken me to write this chapter. I started work again and my classes are getting closer to Midterms. Plus, I was drawing a sleeve tattoo for a friend of mine. So my creativity was being used up. But, I hope you like this chapter.
