Johnnie's POV

Connor and I were quietly waiting for Max to show up.

"Are we going to the hospital?"

I looked at Connor. "We should,"

"No."

"Shut up and let me finish you dork. I won't make you, but I need to see."

Connor grunted and pulled up his shirt. There were black and blue bruises all over his ribs.

"This looks really bad, Connor."

"It'll clear, the pain takes the longest."

It was odvious he'd gotten beatings like this before, just never told anyone. Within the next five minutes, a black mercedes pulled up to the curb.

Max got out and walked over to us. "Tell me what happened."

"Connor?"

He looked at the ground. "My stepdad beat me again."

Max looked horrified. "Well, I can assure you that if he tries to step foot near you, the police will be called."

"Thanks, uh...?"

"Max."

"Max." Connor smiled.

"Let's get the stuff in the car."

We put Connor's stuff in the trunk. He went to sit in the backseat and fell asleep.

Max quietly drove.

"Hey, can we stop somewhere?"

She nodded. "Where to?"

I gave her my adress and we sat in silence.

"Thank you."

Max smiled. "I'll always be there."

Max's POV

We pulled into Johnnie's driveway and he got out.

"Don't leave without me." He smirked.

"Dammit, you ruined my plans."

Johnnie rolled his eyes and walked inside the house.

I was quietly singing 'It Never Ends'.

"Can you scream the screamo parts?"

I smirked at Connor. "Listen."

"IF I'VE SAID IT ONCE, I'VE SAID IT TWICE, I'VE SAID IT A THOUSAND FUCKING TIMES, THAT I'M OKAY, THAT I'M FINE, THAT IT'S ALL JUST IN MY MIND!"

Connor was awestruck. "You, are my match from Heaven."

My eyes widened. "W-What?"

"I-um-I mean, uh, fuck, um, I-I, um... Can we forget I said that?"

"Said what?"

Connor smiled. "So, how long from here to your house?"

"Maybe... Ten minutes? Why?"

"I'm hungry."

I laughed. "Well, I made brownies."

"Thank the Lord!"

Johnnie came running out, a woman right behind him.

Johnnie got in and slammed the door. "Drive."

I did what he said and backed out of the driveway.

"What was that about?" Connor asked.

"She tried making me stay."

"Oh."

The car was silent for the rest of the drive.

"Welcome to Casa de Max."

I opened the door and was greeted by Claudia.

"Hi, I'm Claudia."

Connor and Johnnie shook her hand.

"Thank you, for letting us stay here." Connor said.

"It's really no problem." Claudia smiled.

"I'll show you where the rooms are."

I led Connor and Johnnie upstairs.

"The door on the left and the door on the right."

I walked downstairs and let them settle in.

"Max, can you come here?"

I walked into the living room where my dad was.

"Yeah?"

"Claudia and I are going out to eat. You, Johnnie, Ryan, and Connor will be here alone."

"Okay."

"No parties."

"Darn, my plans are ruined." I laughed.

"We'll leave around seven."

I nodded. It was 6:32.

"Can we order pizza?"

"I left money on the table."

I smiled at Claudia. "Thanks."

Seven o'clock rolled around.

"We're leaving, Max."

"Bye guys!"

I walked into the kitchen, where Ryan was ordering pizza.

"Where's Johnnie?"

He shrugged. I walked upstairs where Johnnie's room was. I knocked on the door.

"Johnnie?"

No answer.

"Johnnie?"

No answer.

I figured he was sleeping, so I went to Connor's room.
