The day went by faster than I had expected. I ran through the halls, finally reaching the front of the school. I couldn’t wait to tell Luke about the party! I finally saw him and Michael next to the fenced gates, casually on their phones. I took this as an opportunity to try and scare Luke. Just as I was about to grab him by the shoulders, he turned around. “Hey Carrie!” he said. “What? How did you know?” I was confused. “I already had seen you coming.” He put his phone into his back pocket.

“Well anyways, guess what?” I asked happily. “You got invited to Ashton’s party. Ashton told me last period.” He cackled. “Hey what’s so funny?” I crossed my arms. “Nothing, nothing, it’s just that you were really happy about it.” I slung my arms around Luke’s shoulder. We began to walk, and I realized that Michael was still standing there. “Oh hey Michael! You can come to the party too.” I wrapped my arm around Michael’s shoulder as well. He flinched at my touch, causing me to jerk my arms from both of them. “Um, I’m not really sure about that…” he murmured. “What? Why not dude? It’ll be totally wicked.” Luke said.

Luke always had a way of saying words, and making them sound so unhip. He was so awkward and weird with wording that sometimes it frightened me, just like now.

“Hey, Carrie when can we start on that-uh project?” Michael completely ignored Luke’s statement. “We can go to my house first, eat, and then go start the project.” We reached the car, and sat inside. He simply nodded his head and Luke started the engine of his car and drove off. I twisted the knob for the volume and began to sing terribly on purpose to the Lana song on the radio, Luke joining in.

Oh, my God, I feel it in the air

Telephone wires above are sizzling like a snare

Honey I'm on fire I feel it everywhere

Nothing scares me anymore

... 2, 3, 4

Kiss me hard before you go

Summertime sadness

I just wanted you to know

That baby you're the best

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness

Got that summertime, summertime sadness

Got that summertime, summertime sadness

Oh, oh

“Wow you guys are- something special.” Michael shook his head, whilst smiling. I turned the volume down a bit and spoke up. “Oh c’mon Michael, you’ve got to like Lana? Even a little bit?” he shook his head. “Nope Carrie not even a little bit.” He showed the small pinch with his fingers. “Shut up before we kick you out of this car.” I thumped his head. We pulled up to my house, and we all stepped out of the car.

I pulled my keys from my book bag and opened the door. “Mom the new kids here!” I shouted in the air, causing Michael to cover his ears. “Geez you’ve got a loud voice there.” I never got tired of his accent. I lead them into my kitchen, searching through my fridge for something we could eat.

I heard my mom’s footsteps coming down the hall and she finally appeared in the kitchen. Her eyes glanced to Michael, a bit frightened. Maybe it was his hair or his shirt? I don’t know why she seemed so scared. Michael stood up from his chair and kindly greeted my mother. “So you must be Michael.” She wore a smile, but behind her eyes I saw the nervousness inside of her. “Erm, yes I am.” The room fell silent, and the air became thicker. I reopened the fridge, searching for something to eat.

“Carrie, I just made some spaghetti.” She began to serve us our plates, and we took a seat at the table. I brought us some Sprite, and sat down. “Well, I’ll leave you guys alone now; I’ve got some laundry to finish.” She began to walk off, but I grabbed her hand. “Wait mom, can I go to Michael’s tonight? For a project were doing for History class?” She stared at me for a while, snapping out of her hypnosis replying with, “Of course honey, just be back by nine o’clock, because it is a school night.” I agreed and with that, she left.

We finished our food and went inside my room. I was always so happy when I had a guest over, because I always had an excuse to show them my room.

“All I see is penguins, penguins, and oh a photo collage here. You must really like penguins.” Michael pointed to my penguin decals on the wall. “No I am the penguin obsseser, thank you.” Luke through the plush penguin pillow at Michael. “For the past 16 years every Christmas, birthday, and heck even regular days, Luke gets me something related to penguins.” I plopped onto my bed, grabbing my guitar. “That would explain the sweater.” He said in a matter of factly tone.

“Hey you play the guitar?” Michael asked. “Not really. Just a bit.” I scrunched my nose. “What? You’re kidding me right now Carrie.” Luke interrupted. “She can play the guitar.” Luke emphasized the word ‘play’. I put the guitar down and stood up pointing to the wall. “Hey look at that picture of me.” Luke smiled. “I also like to take photographs.” I told Michael, picking up my Polaroid camera ad hid it behind my back. “Do you just take a picture of about anything?” Michael asked.

“I just take pictures of random things. Maybe family or-friends.” I pulled the camera out, and snapped a picture of him. “Hey! You did not ask for my consent to take that picture! That’s illegal!” He shouted playfully.

“I guess you can call me a criminal then.” I taped the picture onto the wall. “Anyways, we better get going, its 5:30 and I have to be home by nine o’clock.” I stood up from the bed. “I better get going as well. I have to call ‘the kid with dimples’ to speak about our project.” He smirked. “Oh my god I’m so sorry that the first thing I notice about him is his dimples, I mean who could miss em’?” I turned to Michael for reassurance but he was confused, as always. “Who are you guys talking about?” he asked. “Ashton, the guy whose party you are going to be attending on Friday night.” I stated. “Well anyways, I’m going now, so you can go ahead and talk about dimple boy with Michael. Hey do you guys need a ride?” Luke asked.

“Nope, I’m afraid we’ll be taking the subway. I live kind of far.” Michael finally said. “Ugh you could’ve told me sooner. Now we’ll probably be lucky if we make it by 6:30.” I threw my arms in the air, laughing. He joined into the laughter, and Luke exited the room. I heard the door shut. We stood up from the bed, and went outside.
