Chapter 10: Home Free

I quickly back away, my breathing increasing and my legs shaking. My head spins and my vision blurs, but I try and fight back the need to black out. I sit against the wall for ten minutes then I regain strength. Quickly, I look outside the window to see about a 50 foot drop. I look around and begin to tear the covers and loop them together, making a make-shift rope.

Then I search for guards and see none in sight. Swiftly, I throw the rope over and jam it in the window, making it safe to carry my weight. After double checking, I scoot my way down the rope, being cautious of where I put my feet. About half way down a guard appears and my body stiffens and grows numb.

I stare at him watching where every foot is placed and seeing where his eyes land. My heart begins to thump and my breathing becomes quicker. The guard slowly walks by, whistling a sweet tune. Each step he takes has a little bit of a skip in it, and his hands grasp his spear loosely. Suddenly, his eyes land upon me.

I quickly begin to climb up, until I hear him say something.

"No stop", he whispers. "I won't hurt you. Follow me, I can show you the way out of here. I don't wish to help the prince with his abusing of women."

I slowly climb down and watch him, making sure he doesn't attack me. He holds out his hand and gestures for me to take it. I grasp his hand and climb the rest of the way down.
"My name is Kai, what's yours?"

"Erica".

"Nice to meet you Erica".

"Why are you helping me?"

"I don't want to serve the prince, all he has done is ruin me".

"Well, thank you".

"Don't mention it", he says with a light chuckle.

We walk for about ten minutes, and the entire way we quietly laugh and share stories that we wish to forget and we wish to remember. Then, we reach my way out of this hell-hole.

"Kai, if you want you can come with me, you will be safe with us".

"No. I can't. Jeremy won't want me there, considering I'm one of these wolves."

"No, but your different. Your kind and gentle, and.....well.....your just.....better."

"Ok. I'll go."

"Thank You", I say and I grab his hand and pull him into the forest with me.
