I saw a beautiful girl today. Everyday I see attractive people. There are always random strangers passing by that catch my eye for a split second but this time, this time was different.
I was supposed to go to school. I hadn't gone to school in about three weeks. When you live in a home, no one really cares what you do. You could go days without being seen and no one would question it. It's always been a free-for-all, at least in my home. The past three weeks I had made it a habit of jumping a train and riding to different cities each day. I didn't have money to pay for the tickets, but I could usually sneak on board by offering some sort of service to the crew. Being a girl didn't restrict them from offering me difficult tasks, and I never asked for any either. I liked being able to help in any way I could, no matter what I had to do. Today, I had helped load luggage and my back had soon been sore from lifting heavy suitcases on board.
I remember how I had gotten onto the train and made my way to the very end of the seating area. I had my backpack with me, filled with only my journal, a broken pencil, and an apple I had swiped from the market down the street. I settled into my usual seat at the back of the train, my backpack in the seat next to me as I tried to get into a comfortable position. I was looking at the rip in the knee of my dark and old jeans when I heard a soft yet cheerful voice next to me.
"Hi."
I looked up to meet a pair of beautiful brown eyes. I was instantly mesmerized by the flecks of green and hazel I could see among the brown.
"Hello," I replied, noticing the shake in my voice. I cleared my throat and asked the girl if she wanted to sit down. She smiled at me and I noticed that she had the cheesiest yet sweetest smile I'd ever seen.
"Yes," she replied, with an obvious accent I had somehow missed before. I smiled back at her as I moved my backpack to the floor and watched her sit down next to me. As she settled in, I noticed her outfit. She had on a blue shirt that revealed a part of her tummy, I could barely make out a small birthmark where the shirt rode up a little. She was also wearing mid-thigh colorful shorts that revealed a pair of long slender legs and two more birthmarks. One of the birthmarks was on her left leg while the other was on her left thigh. For some reason, I had a brief flash of my lips grazing all of those spots that were so unique and beautiful. I felt myself blush and quickly erased the image from my mind, continuing my quiet observation of the girl. I noticed she also had on white socks and a pair of black converse that looked quite cute on her. I let my gaze travel up her body one last time before I moved my eyes up to her shoulders and neck. She had delicate collarbones and a soft-looking neck. Her long brown hair fell in locks around her shoulders and I saw how she had bits of blonde amidst the brown. She had been turned away from me as I had looked at her and she soon turned to face me.
"Do you like what you see?" she asked me, laughing as I ducked my head and blushed again, this time worse than before.
"Uh, I, um I was uh looking at uh," I sputtered, completely at a loss for words. I was completely mortified and a large part of that was due to the girl catching my creepy stares, but another part had to do with the way the girl laughed. It was a loud and happy laugh, the kind I hadn't heard in years. "Um I'm sorry," I finally managed, unable to say anything more. I had no reasonable explanation to get myself out of this one.
"Tis okay," she said, using the word as if it were a natural part of speech. "People tend to stare when you're as tall as I am." I watched her stretch and had to mentally scold myself when I thought of running my hands along her bare skin.
"How tall are you?" I asked, leaning my head back to rest against the seat, the embarrassment and not-so-innocent thoughts already leaving me. The girl made me feel nervous and fidgety but calm and peaceful at the same time. I had no idea how she had this strange double effect on me but I decided not to think of it more than necessary.
