I was cleaning tables as he walked in. I stopped and looked his way, but I continued cleaning. I didn't want him to see me, to bring back all the memories.

I was still cleaning tables as I heard a voice say "hey, will you go help that man over there? seat him at one of your tables. we're busy today and your the only waitress left." it was my manager. I couldn't believe my ears.

"umm....," I really didn't want to, but my manager was mean, and surely she'd give me a hard time. "yeah sure." I continued

I walked over to him and my strategy was to act like nothing happened between us and he was just a normal guest that I had to serve.

"good afternoon sir, you can follow me." I said as his eyes grew bigger and his jaw dropped. I had started walking and I heard him behind me.

"(y/n), please? listen to me...I," he spoke. it was so good to hear his voice again, but I cut him off before he could continue.

"booth or table?" I asked him. I looked back and he just stared at me in disbelief.

"t-table..." he answered me. I led him to a table by the window and set his menu down. I wanted to answer him but I didn't know what to say. "(y/n)," he continued, "I miss you so much please forgive me I'm so sorry I love you--" he spoke so fast but I cut him off again.

"zen, the last time we spoke was after I had the miscarriage and we were supposed to get married, but you cheated on me. please stop. I don't want to cry at work with my boss around. okay?" I said looking down.

"(y/n), please." he said quietly.

"zenny, I..." I slapped my hand over my mouth after I realized what I said. i closed my eyes, and took my hand away from my face. "look," I opened my eyes and continued, "I know you still have my number, so just call me when I get off at 9, okay? we can talk then but not right now. please don't make my job harder than it already is."

"okay. I will" he answered

"okay. so, what would you like to drink..?"
