Percy Jackson hates waiting.

He sits in the Big House by the council table, fidgeting with everything within his reach. Having severe ADHD doesn’t really help calm his nerves down. They have to be near now, he thought.  He just couldn’t wait.

His girlfriend Annabeth Chase, sitting beside him and seeing him twiddling his battered thumbs, held his hands in both of hers.

“Percy, relax. They’re gonna be here soon, don’t worry,” she said in a soft voice.

Percy nodded at her and broke a small smile. This girl has some kind of effect on him and he knows it. He was never bothered. They’ve been dating for two months before he disappeared and his memory was taken by the goddess Hera. But now he’s back after almost nine months of trying to get that memory back. His disappearance almost drove Annabeth crazy.

He glanced at their intertwined fingers, and then at Annabeth’s face. She is so beautiful, he thought. Blond hair, stunning gray eyes, tanned face that darkens with blush while he stares at them. Her beauty never fails to take his breath away.

Goddess Athena, he prayed, Thank you very much.

A thunder rumbled across the sky.

“What was that?” Annabeth gasped.

Percy laughed. “It’s nothing.”

Annabeth smiled.

“It’s been hours. Why didn’t they let me pick her up? I can do better on that than Clarisse, or Jason even,” he muttered impatiently. It was his idea to go to Pennsylvania to get the demigod and now he’s the one kicked out of the plan.

Annabeth shook her head. “You can’t, Percy. The only thing to get there fast is via chariot. And the gods know you can’t step onto the sky.”

Right. Zeus’s domain. He’s gonna be blasted out the sky. Dang.

“Jason will be great. And Grover’s there, too. He will take care of her. And she’ll be safe with Clarisse.”

A hard rapping on the door came up and Lacy, daughter of Aphrodite, popped in.

“They’re here,” she announced with a twinkle of excitement in her eyes.

Percy and Annabeth jumped up from their seats and ran outside to the meadow. A couple of demigods already surrounded the newcomers. He ran to their position and the people made way for him.

“Grover!” he called.

Grover stretched his hooves to see him. When he did, he smiled just about the biggest grin. “Hey Percy!”

They pumped fists in delight before Percy asked, “Where is she?”
