I drove us to school, seeing that it was silly for Connor to drive and leave my car at his place. We got there early, hoping to avoid mass crowds but we should have realised that our efforts were in vain.
"Troye!"
"Connor!"
"Oh my god!"
"You're back!"
As soon as we walked through the front door, we were met with screams and people running up to us, asking for autographs and waving pens and paper in our faces. After a moment, I felt Connor lean into me, half hiding behind me. I knew the crowd was making him anxious so I laced our fingers together and tried to push our way through the crowd. But people just kept crowding towards us. Connor turned his head into my shoulder and whimpered a little but I was at a loss on what to do.
"It's okay, Con." I muttered to him, giving his hand a squeeze. Just as I spoke, the PA system crackled to life.
"Attention all students. The school hallways are to remain clear to allow for easy movement from classroom to classroom. I understand it is a special day, but please be respectful of your fellow students, and of Troye and Connor. I am sure they are happy to give out autographs and talk to everyone but give them some time to adjust. Thank-you and enjoy your day." The principal's voice rang through the hallways and there was a dejected moan from the crowd as they started to disperse.
Finally Connor and I were pretty much alone, with just a few students walking by. I turned to him and used my free hand to brush the hair out of his eyes.
"You okay?"
"I am now." He answered, letting out a sigh.
"Let's hope that was the worst of it. That was slightly terrifying." I admitted.
"Only slightly?" He raised an eyebrow as we began to walk towards his locker.
"Okay, it was more than slightly terrifying."
"I'm sorry, Troye."
"Sorry for what?"
"For getting so anxious every time we're in a big crowd." I pulled him to a stop and made him turn to face me.
"Don't apologise for that, Con. Don't ever apologise for that. It's not something either of us can control. It's just who you are and honestly, I don't mind. It gives me a chance to be affectionate with you in public without being questioned."
"So you like that I get scared?" He teased.
"If it gets you to cuddle in to me, then sure." I teased him right back.
"Like this?" He awkwardly wrapped his around around me sideways as we kept walking. I laughed.
"Something like that."
"Hey guys." I looked up to see Zoe and Joe waiting at Connor's locker. Joe was completely engrossed in his phone and didn't even see us coming until I jokingly snatched the small device from his hands.
"Hey!" He complained. "I was texting a girl..."
"Another one?" I asked and he shrugged.
"So what? I can't help it if they all want me." Zoe slapped him upside the head as Connor and I just rolled our eyes and laughed.
"Ignore my brother." She said. "How did you guys go getting in here?"
"We were mobbed at the front door." Connor announced.
"Stampeded more like." I amended. "It was actually scary."
"Sounds like it. We heard the announcement. Hopefully that keeps people at bay."
"I really hope so. I just want to finish Senior Year in peace." I agreed, letting go of Connor's hand so he could get into his locker. "Is that too much to ask?"
"Maybe if you weren't a global superstar." I turned to see Tyler walking towards us with Kayla close behind.
"Hey Ty. Morning Kayla."
"Hi." Kayla barely looked up from the textbook she was reading intently. I frowned.
"What're you doing, Kay?"
"I've got a Biology exam this morning. I'm just getting some last minute cramming in."
"Right." I shook my head and turned back to the others. "Are we on for lunch?"
"Of course." Zoe replied. She looked about to say more but the bell rang amd people around us started hurrying towards classrooms. Connor shut his locker and took hold of my hand again.
"Let's get going, babe." He said quietly. I raised an eyebrow as we waved to our friends and started in the direction of my locker.
"Trying out nicknames again?"
"Yeah. I think I like this one. It suits you more."
"That it does." I sighed. "But I still like the way you say my name." He laughed and pressed a soft kiss to my pouting lips.
"Don't you worry, Troye..." He dragged out the end of my name. "I'll still use your name."
"Good. Because otherwise I might have to think up some new names for you."
We reached my locker and I quickly grabbed my stuff so we could hurry to our Music Theory class.
--------------------
The day passed in a rush. Connor and I tried to stay under the radar as much as possible but we kept getting stopped in the hallways by students asking for autographs. Mostly they were asking me but some of them asked Connor too, making him blush with pride.
At lunch we joined our friends in the courtyard where they surrounded us and warded off any approaching students. We were extremely grateful for that and enjoyed a quiet lunch.
By the time we pulled up outside Connor's house, we were both exhausted amd we just sat there for a moment, enjoying the quiet.
"Are you going to come in?" He asked, lightly tracing lines up my arm. I shook my head.
"No. I should probably go home." I saw the disappointment flash in his eyes. "You could stay at mine tonight, if you want."
"Really?"
"Yeah. It's only fair since I crashed at your place last night." I could hear the excitement in his voice when he spoke.
"Let me just get some things to change for tomorrow..."
"Connor?"
"Yeah?"
"As much as I want you to come over now, I think we should at least try what your mom said this morning."
"What?"
"About trying to spend some time apart. I know we don't want that. But i think it'll be good for us. So I think you should have dinner with your family and drive over to my place later."
"Oh." He looked dejected so I leaned over to kiss him.
"Just think...only a few more months and then we can get an apartment together and we dont have to be apart when we don't want to."
"That's a nice thought."
"I thought so." I gave him one more kiss before pulling away completely. "Now, go be with your family."
"Yes, sir!" He mock saluted me and I stuck my tongue out at him before giving him a gentle shove out of the car.
"I love you, Connie Frannie. I'll see you soon."
"Love you too, babe. Can't wait." I waved as I drove away, already anticipating his arrival at my house in a few hours.
