"I'm Fine."
A lie every girl has told.
It's like a bottle cap,
condensing all the emotions
and pressure
that are threatening
to bubble over,
like a pop that's been shaken.
A mask every girl has put on.
It tries to hide the cracks
in the persona that we put forward,
to salvage that expectation
that girls are supposed to be
Pretty,
Happy,
And perfect
All the time.
A shield every girl has used.
We think that by crying,
or by admitting our hurt,
we will be vulnerable to more,
that we will get hurt again.
But that is all they are,
Lies,
Masks,
And shields.
So let the tears fall where they may.
Let the screams out.
Admit to your pain.
Because or else one day,
That cap will come flying off,
Those cracks will show through,
And you will be more vulnerable than ever.
And your pain will be so much worse.
