First I went out to the garden. I shooed all the evil fairies away so they didn't eat our plants. I managed to get nipped a few times in the process.
A friendly fairy approached me and I watched it hover over. I gasped when I looked at its eyes. No way. It's eyes were dark black. The symbol of prophecy. Those fairies weren't even supposed to exist.
"The ones you love most are not dead.
Enter the forest known as Mystic .
Find the dragon.
Kill the unicorn.
Eat the purple flower...."
The fairy spoke to me with its mind and it sounded like a lot of nonsense, but I knew these fairies were always correct. Or they always guided you on the right path.
"Why would I want to kill-" A bright flash cut me off as the fairy disappeared.
"-a unicorn?" I finished before realizing she was gone.
I sighed and did the rest of my chores. But my mind was somewhere else. Why in the name of Chrysalis would I want to kill a unicorn? (Chrysalis is the Fairy Queen by the way.) Who would want to find a dragon? And what's up with eating a purple flower?
"And of course my father and brother are dead, if they weren't than they would have come looking for me!"
"Who told you they were alive?" My mother's voice made me realize that I had said that aloud.
"Ummmm... no one, just my.... mind?" I tried.
My mother scoffed and left the kitchen, where I was checking for brownies, small creatures that liked to steal small objects, cooking supplies, stuff like that.
My chores mostly have to do with fairies, or other magical creatures. I still dusted, cooked, cleaned, vacuumed, and did the dishes and laundry, but I still had more fairy chores.
Of course my mother sat around all day doing absolutely nothing except watching TV, talking over the phone, and throwing random parties with her friends.
And of course, I was in charge of catering.
One last thing about what the prophecy fairy said stood out. It was the verse "enter the forest known as Mystic." It was actually the easiest verse to decipher, but only magic beings were granted passage. I was certainly not a serpent or a fairy creature.
I sighed. Why did my life have to be so confusing? Why me?
I looked up a the sky. It was already getting dark. The stars were slowly creeping out. A werewolf howled somewhere. I knew I should go inside. It was dangerous out.
I crept into the house, not wanting to wake my mother. There are punishments. I winced and rubbed my arm. The spot where she had hit me.
I crept up the stairs and into my room. My small, dark, miserable room. At least it keeps me more safe than my mother does....
I plopped onto my bed and pulled my sheets over me, instantly falling asleep.
I ran. It was chasing me. I looked behind and saw it. Suddenly I was falling, falling into darkness. The darkness that had swallowed me up many times...
I was in my mother's room. She was talking to someone. I gasped as I realized that it was my father.
"I am leaving you," he said.
"Why?" This was my mother's voice now.
"Drake and I must. Duty calls."
I gasped. Drake was my brother. This was no ordinary dream. And it was no ordinary night either. I peeked out the window. The moon was full. It was the exact same night my father and brother disappeared.
"Where will you be heading?"
I was snapped out of my reverie instantly.
"Mystic Forest."
"Mystic Forest! Are you out of your mind?"
I could not believe that I had slept through all of this.
"I must! The dark forces are rising, and the Warlings need my help!"
What is a warling? I would have asked the question out loud, but I was dreaming of course.
"Oh come on! They don't need you, why can't they defeat these dark warriors themselves?"
"Martha. A large group of fey people can plan. They can organize an amazing, no perfect attack, but, fairies won't be able to do much damage!"
"You...could...die..."
My eyes widened with shock. That means... My father might really be dead.
"Well that's a risk I'm willing to take."
My mom realized she was losing the argument.
"Fine. Go. I hate you for this. Taking my only son and leaving me with...Faith." My mother spat my name out like I was...garbage...
"Can you do one last thing for me?" My father asked.
"Fine."
"Don't ever tell her."
"What am I supposed to do? Tell her that you disappeared?"
"She's not going to believe that. Make up something. Your creative." And with that my father walked out of the bedroom.
I felt like an idiot. My mother didn't come up with some other story. She said they disappeared. And I believed her! I didn't know what to believe in anymore.
I realized that I should follow my father, and so I did. He walked into my room and slid something under my dresser in the very back. It was a little brown box.
He looked at me sorrowfully then left the room.
I woke up with a start. It was the middle of the night. The dream seemed so real. Maybe it was...
I hopped or my bed and crouched down so I could see under the dresser. Well, actually, all I was seeing was blackness because it was the middle of the night... but you get the point.
I reached my hand out until it was at the very back of the dresser. I waved my hand around but found nothing. I frowned. Maybe this was a waste of time...
Thunk.
My hand hit something hard. I grabbed the object and pulled it out. It was a small, wooden box.

I just like cliffhangers:)
I know it's kind of boring right now but I'm trying not to rush the story like I always do.
