Chapter 8
Making contact with Lance again made Keith feel dizzy. It was all too sudden, but still he did not move or shy away from the embrace. For some reason, he felt comfortable, but at the same time, that nagging of uncertainty came creeping in the back of his mind. "Lance..." Keith said softly. He felt like he would explode from overheating. He could feel himself melting away at Lance's warm body. "I'm scared."
Lance closed his eyes as he held him. "There's literally no reason to be. You're awake now, Keith. This is real. I never want to see you unconscious like that ever again."
"Why do I care about you so much, you idiot?" Keith grumbled. With shivering arms, he tried to hold Lance back, but it was too tight of a hold. Once Lance felt Keith moving, he loosened his hold just so Keith could wrap his arms around him too.
"I'm irresistible," Lance chuckled.
Keith felt himself smile. "You're pushing it."
"What were you so afraid of?" Lance asked. He then began giving Keith's neck small kisses.
Keith pulled away from Lance at that moment and almost wanted to run away. "That..."
"What? Kissing?" Lance opened his eyes and slowly let go of him. "It's okay. I've never been kissed before either."
"Okay, it's not just that...I don't want to lose you," Keith clarified.
Lance sighed and put his hand under his chin. "Do you know how many times I've stayed up late thinking about that? I don't want to lose you either. I don't wanna lose anyone, to be honest..."
They looked away from each other and the silence felt awkward.
After a few heartbeats, Keith cleared his throat. "What do we do now?"
Lance shrugged. "I never thought I'd get this far..."
Keith scooted away from Lance a bit and sighed. "I knew this was a bad idea," He grumbled. He debated on getting away from him and leaving the room. But then he thought about how great it felt to be held by Lance. He remained silent, wondering what would they do now. They had no place to go on dates. They'd have to be around the others all the time. Keith shivered at the thought of holding Lance's hand around everyone else. His chest felt heavy as he thought about the others laughing at them for holding hands or doing anything like that.
Lance sighed. "So...you don't want to be my--"
Keith turned towards him suddenly and dramatically shushed him. "Don't say it," He growled. "Can we just be friends? I mean, we are friends now, but all this time, we've been bickering and being immature..."
"W-What're you trying to say?" Lance said. He had worry in his eyes now and Keith could almost see the disappointment. But deep down, Keith knew this was the right path.
Keith scratched his head awkwardly. "We should be nice to each other first..." He mumbled. He wondered if he were blushing again, but decided it didn't matter because after all, friends don't make each other red like that.
"I totally get it," Lance said darkly. "It's me who always thought of you as my rival...I get it..." He finally got up form Keith's bed and walked to the door. "I'll be a real friend to you then, Keith. I promise." Despite being sad, Lance smiled back at Keith before walking away.

At dinner later on, Keith and Lance sat next to each other again.
Pidge was the first to notice. After all, Shiro let Pidge and Hunk know about Keith and Lance, so naturally Pidge would pick up on their attitudes if something did happen. "So," Pidge started as they were about to eat their dinner. "Are you two together now? Shouldn't you let us now if we should expect some PDA?"
