Chapter 1:
Fawn's POV:
Let me get straight to the point. I do not like school assemblies. I do, however, like school. Assemblies are just ways for the school staff to embarrass us poor students by making us demonstrate stupid things. For example last year Ian Holling had to demonstrate how to change a babies diaper. Why would we need to know how to do that? Well they told us that it was because of teenage pregnancy.
This year they brought in police officers. They want us to know that if you get arrested you won't be able to break the handcuffs. The station just got new and improved ones that they wanted to try out and what better way than to test them on high school students. Well here's a fact. We already know that you can't break handcuffs. It's so obvious, we learn it at a young age.
"Fawn! Lets sit here!" Marley shouted since barely anybody was in the auditorium yet.
"I can't I have to demonstrate this year. Remember yesterday's meeting. Mr. Derard said that the student council president and vice president have to do it since nobody volunteered." I pushed my glasses back onto the bridge of my nose as they were about to fall off. And no they are real, not hipster, glasses.
"But the president isn't here today. Ollie said that he would be leaving because he had an important thing to do."
"Then who am I demonstrating with?"
"Who knows. I don't even understand why there has to be two people." True that, I don't think that police officers handcuff two people together.
"I also don't understand."
"Stop speaking like that Tiny." I scrunched up my face and glared at him. The love of my life. Mark Holster.
"Like what?"
"Like a mature adult. You may be the next school president but that doesn't mean anything. Loosen up. Have fun!"
"I do have fun. I have fun while reading and I have fun while I watch movies."
"I'm the treasurer and I don't act like that."
"Yeah, you're only the treasurer. I have a bigger role than you." He grinned an evil looking grin.
"Guess who's helping you with the assembly."
"Oh great. It's you."
"What's so bad about that? You know you love me."
"Stop using that against me." Yes your heard that right. He knows that I like him and he always reminds me about it. He doesn't really think I like him, he just thinks it is a small thing that I have for him. Little does he know how wrong he is.
"Never." He put his arm over my shoulder and I tensed up. He spun me around to face him. "I know you don't really like me, I just tease you about it because Marley told me that you did." Marley is my best friend. She told Mark that I like him and he just laughed thinking that it was a dare.
"Would it really be so bad if I liked you?"
"No. I would date you it's just that your my friend and I don't want to ruin that." When did we become friends? The whole time I've known him I've hidden my feelings and acted as if he were the plague. He's so clueless.
"We should go up to the stage. The police officers are here already. They'll be starting soon." I shrugged his arm off of my shoulder and walked onto the stage. I've gotten rid of my stage fright when I was a freshman, you can't go to our school and be scared of speaking in front of people. We saw two men in uniforms eating a box of donuts. Of course. I decided to call them the totally cliche cops. One of the cops licked his fingers off and then picked up the cuffs. My face contorted into one of disgust.
"Here put these on. One on both of your wrists." We nodded our heads and then snapped one on my wrist and then snapped one on Mark's. Everybody had an expression of boredom on their face. "Now pull as hard as you can without hurting each other." We did as he said and nothing happened. Somebody in the bleachers stood up.
"What makes these so different from regular cuffs?" My thoughts exactly.
"These are way more powerful. Also they only have two keys. I have one of them and Bob has the other. Now we're going to let you guys go." He patted his pocket and then his eyes got wider. "Bob can I see your key?"
"What key?"
"I gave you a key earlier. Where is it?"
"I might have lost it."
"Bob! How could you lose it? The chief is going to kill us."
"Sorry Joe." Mark cleared his throat to catch their attention. "Yes?"
"How are you going to get us out of these?"
"We can't until new keys are conjured up. Sorry kiddos." Joe is going to get it if he can't conjure up some keys right now.
"So let me get this straight. Two police officers can't even keep track of something this important!?" I buried my face in my hands and then remembered that I was handcuffed to somebody.
Tell me what you think about the first chapter!
