A few minutes later, a doctor came into the room. Immediately, Beca and Chloe put a finger over their mouths, motioning for him to stay quiet.
"Which of you is Beca?" The doctor whispered.
"I am." Beca said.
Your mother is not well. She has a punctured lung, and has lost a lot of blood. Would you like to see her?" The doctor told Beca.
Beca looked at Megan. Megan had wanted them to stay with her because she was afraid.
"You go Becs, I'll stay with Megan." Chloe said and looked at a sleeping Megan.
"You sure?" Beca asked.
"Yeah, you go talk to your mom." Chloe said.
"Thanks." Beca said and walked out of the room with the doctor.
"She can't speak, so she we gave her a notebook to communicate with." The Doctor informed Beca.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
They entered the room and Beca stopped at the sight of her mom. She looked awful. She was even paler than Megan, and had more scars on her face.
"Mom?" Beca said and her mother looked up at her.
Lisa began to write on her notepad. She looked up at Beca and a tear formed in her eye. Beca walked over to her mom's bedside and Lisa continued writing. Her hand stopped and she put the pen down on the table. She looked down and took one last breath.
The heart rate machine sped up before dying down completely.
Beca began to cry. She pryed the notepad out of her mom's hands. It read:
"Dear Rebeca,"
Beca stopped. Did her mom really have to use her full name? She hated it.
She continued.
"You and Megan are my heroes. Nothing could stop you from living the life you love with the ones you love. You fought for Chloe and Megan fought for you. You have been through so much, but overcame it. I'm so sorry I couldn't overcome this for you. I love you lil' peanut. Never forget me.
~Mumsie"
Beca called her mom "Mumsie" when she was little and Lisa called her "lil' peanut" because Beca was so small.
Beca stood there.
"I will never forget you Mom, never." She whispered and folded the note to fit in her pocket.
She went back to Megan's room. She walked in and saw Chloe sitting on the bed with Megan in her lap.
"What's this?" Beca asked.
"Megan had a bad dream and needed some company. How's your mom?" Chloe asked.
Beca stood silent. Megan stared at Beca.
"Gone." Beca said.
Megan began crying and cuddled Chloe closer.
"She said we were her heroes, Meg." Beca said.
"She did?" Megan asked.
"She said she admired that we fought to live for those we loved. You fought for me." Beca said.
Megan blushed. She loved her sister.
"I know." Megan said and smiled. She was still cuddling Chloe, but Chloe didn't mind. Megan weighed no more than sixty pounds.
"Hey." Chloe said and looked down at the girl she was cuddling in her lap.
"What?" Megan asked.
"I love you." Chloe said and kissed Megan on the forehead.
"I love both of you." Beca said.
"I love you guys too." Megan said and they all hugged.
