The clouds tore open
and the rain began to pour.
But looking through the window
with eyes that were sore
She thought it looked inviting
and that sound was hypnotizing
She put on her
bright red boots
and her
deep black coat
She wondered if all this
rainwater would maybe
help her stay afloat
Hood up,
hands in pockets,
she stepped into the rain
One more minute in that house
and she would have gone insane!
The sidewalk was cracked,
refreshingly imperfect
This cold, wet walk
was definitely worth it
The air smelled of
rainwater -
Earth's natural perfume -
how God created it,
she didn't have a clue.
Though the rain pelted hard
there were many people out
All with collars and umbrellas up
their heads facing down
She blended in well
with her dark raincoat
No one made eye contact
they just left her alone
After a few minutes of walking
and deep recollection
she paused to examine her
shimmery reflection
While others moved quickly to escape the rain
She simply stood there, more calm, more tame
The rain was her escape
She let out a deep sigh,
listening to the patter of the rain
and a breeze blow by
She looked deep into the puddle
at the girl she saw there
and whispered "Who am I?"
Then, pulling her hood down,
she tilted her face to the sky
And let the rain
wash the salt from her face
