Chapter 2
“Yes Bill, the dam is working just wonderfully. In later news, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Putin has just issued a worldwide press broadcast on the missing fire boy, Alexei Ivashkhov. Ivashkhov has been missing since late April with no word on his condition or how he was taken straight out of his room without any signs of struggle or any noticing from guards.”
A picture of a pale grey eyed boy popped on the screen. His jaw was strong defined- either from lack of nourishment or he was well built. His hair had a dead black sheen.
I always thought he’d be blond. Or a red head, red would go with fire.
I slowly ate my cereal as I watched the newscaster ramble on more and more on the boy. My grandmother shuffled around the kitchen, making breakfast for the old men and women of her care home.
“…although, there is word that he may have been taken by a cult group, the name roughly translated to ‘The Bringers of Light.’”
“That’s unoriginal,” I mumbled before slurping the milk from my bowl.
“Also concerning the elemental children, Rosalie Darley has become close to a star in London. She has already appeared in various talk shows.”
Another picture popped up, this time of a girl with muddy brown eyes and light almost platinum blond hair. She was gorgeous, but I could almost get the snobbish vibe from her. Ironically, Rosalie Darley was geokinetic, as in relationship with nature, as in assumed to be mothering. Mother earth.
“Rosalie has sent her heartfelt pity towards Russia-“
The picture was turned into a silenced video with Darley talking in front of a large crowd of reporters.
“…and is doing what she can to help get Alexei Ivashkhov home.”
A male newscaster was included into the screen picture.
“It’s one more thing to strengthen the international bond of Russia and England, Sally. Ever since those two kids were introduced in January the relations have gotten stronger.”
Using people as little pawns to try and be friends with another country is pretty sick in a way to me. Yet another reason why I’ll never be found. I threw my bowl into the sink as she started to wash the dishes.
“Speaking of which we have even more news, Gabriel Mendes, the Aerokinetic user of Brazil has received great care after being found. Originally, he was living in one of the poorest cities with his mother and younger sister, but ever since he has been moved to the capital and is receiving everything the family could possibly need.”
“That’s such wonderful news about the elementals in a time like this, but sadly, the boy who was thought to be the Hydrokinesis user in Australia has just been discovered to be a fraud. He is actually atmokinetic, a rare find in the world of Psychs. So far only one other has been found. Atmokinesis has been shown to ability to hold some control over the weather.”
“In a way that could be considered good news Tom,” Sally said looking at him with a saccharinely sweet smile at him.
“It means that the Hydrokinetic child is still out there waiting to be found. And theres a chance that he or she may be found in America…”
I started to pick up my school bag off the couch as my grandmother stared, arms cross at CNN.
“She must be a very lucky girl,” she said in her thick accent of broken English.
