April came home from a late shift in an angry state. You and I were sprawled out on the floor counting all of your trick-or-treating candy when she slammed the door, making both of us jump.
"Mommy?" You questioned, immediately alarmed.
Almost as quickly as the anger had come, it vanished the minute she saw your face. Her face softened and she kneeled down on the carpet with us.
"What'd you get tonight, Hattie bug?" Her voice quiet; tight.
"Chocolate Chews, your favourite." you said cautiously, still hesitant about her mood. You were a smart girl. "Your not a very good feelings hider, mommy."
April smiled weakly, brushing a loose strand of hair from out of her face. "Im just drained tonight. Did you have trick-or-treating with daddy?"
Suddenly your face lit up as if nothing happened. "Daddy let me run."
Your mothers face hardened and stared me down. "Really, Jackson? Really?"
I threw my hands up in defence. "Hey, let's not get all angry. She's fine, plus she didn't break anything and got some exercise. She was just having fun."
Well, saying that was obviously a big mistake.
"Exercise? She's got OI, Jackson! Sneezing could make her break a bone! You let her run!? First a suggestion to sue for wrongful birth, and now this. Great."
I stopped dead.
"Lawsuit?"
