Chapter 2: Sneaking Out

When Dick Grayson came home the next day from school he found no one "Alfred, where's Bruce? And what are you doing?" he asks and the butler says "In the bat cave and I'm almost finished with this, so just go, I'll bring some cold drinks later", the boy nods and is surprised to see Amber in the cave training with Bruce and losing badly "Hi Robin" the girl says with a smile as she does a back flip to dodge Bruce "Since you two already know each other, meet Shadow Raven, Alfred should be finished with her costume by now" the billionaire says and he looks at Amber "That's enough for now" he says and trows a towel to her. At that moment Alfred walks in and puts some drinks down for everyone "There's trouble in Gotham, the Joker escaped again" he says and Amber asks "Can I go?" "No you can't" Batman says and Dick mumbles "Give me a minute", he comes back a short while later in costume and Batman is already in the car "Sorry, maybe next time" Robin says and he gets in as well, the two leave and Amber sighs, she wanted to go too.

She finishes her drink and lays on the ground "Alfred, do you think I should go?" she asks earning a shrugs "Well he would want you to finish training first, but how are you going to get there anyway?" he asks and Amber gets up snatching the newly made costume from the tray and she runs of "Just prepare a crash course on how to ride a motorcycle" she says, when she comes down she's wearing her new outfit with a raven symbol on the front of her shirt in red "You look lovely" he says as the girl sits down.

After a quick lesson on how to ride a motorcycle Amber heads of "Bats will kill me, but oh well" she mumbles, her long shining black hair hanging loose behind her as she tracks the two down "Oh boy" she mumbles and sighs taking a shortcut, she was glad she had navigation. At the warehouse she mumbles "Really Joker, how cliche?", but she heads to the roof where she looks through the window to see Batman captured, but before she can act a hand covers her mouth and pulls her back "What are you doing here?" Robin quietly asks and the girl sighs mumbles "Helping out, what's the plan?" "Distract the Joker, get Batman out and go home" Robin says deciding he might need the help "But you're going to get in trouble later" he adds and the two sneak in and Robin is suddenly gone and the Joker distracted, so Shadow quickly frees Batman and he wants to complain that she should have listened, but the Joker groans making both turn to him "Go Robin" Shadow mumbles and she moves quickly from out of the shadows and she kicks the Joker in his stomach and Robin punches him "Back to the asylum you go" Batman says. After the Joker is brought away, again, he turns to Shadow "You are in so much trouble young lady", they head of back at the bat cave Robin smirks "You look awesome in that outfit!" he calls out and Batman sighs "It fits you well, but you could have gotten seriously hurt, do not do that again" he says earning a slight smirk from Shadow "So... you're not going to ground me?" "No, that wouldn't work, you'd be gone by the time we decide to check on you" Batman says and he sighs.

The second time she snuck out was expected "I don't wanna do homework!" she complains while Bruce is helping her, she just got into school and already had an insane amount of it, since she needed to study for an upcoming test "You're almost finished for today, with this" Bruce says earning a groan and he adds "I'm going to get some coffee and then keep helping you, try to finish this", when he comes back however she's gone, but so are her books and sunglasses.

At the mountain everyone is surprised to see Robin arrive, but even the boy wonder is surprised to see his new partner "Right..." he says and turns to the team who are gathered around "This is Shadow Raven, Batman's new protege" he says and Artemis looks the girl up and down "I'm still in the middle of training, I just need some help with homework" Shadow says, so once she dumps all her work on the coffee table everyone is shocked "Just started and they won't let me have less work" Shadow says sitting on the ground hitting her head with her advanced math book "Yeah let's get working on it" Robin says plopping next to her and he gently takes the book from his friend's hand "My English teacher said aster isn't a word, she asked for the opposite of disaster" Shadow says and Artemis says "I'll help you with that", that evening after watching a very boring movie, Megan insisted on watching it, Shadow had fallen asleep on top of her nearly finished homework for the two weeks she needed to catch up on and Batman walks in just as Robin decides to finish it for his best friend, well most had fallen asleep besides him and Megan, the Martian currently being in the kitchen baking cookies "She really couldn't help it couldn't she?" Batman asks startling both teens who are still awake "At least she finished" Robin says putting the books in the bag "You're too strict on her" he also says. Batman picks the sleeping girl up and he says "It's for her own good Robin" "See you later Megan" Robin says before heading of with the others and Megan waves at them.
