Chapter 19: Memories part 2

Batman, being Batman, decided to keep Robin of the team until his memories returned, but Amber's increased good mood didn't go unnoticed by the other teens "What got you in such a good mood?" Kaldur asks, but Wally says "No use in asking, I tried when I found her humming while watering some plants" "We don't have plants Wally" Artemis asks, so Amber turns to her after pausing her game "Yes we do, someone put them as a gift at the entrance, they're not dangerous, I send a sample to Bats" she says and sweatdrops "How come you never noticed it?" she asks, but M'gann says as she floats in "Because the plants move, you put them near the zeta tubes yesterday, but now they're at every door". Amber tilts her head "Oh... But that's weird" she says and gets up "I watered them this morning". Kaldur looks at Amber and says "Amber answer the question", but a screen pops up with a very unamused Batman on it "What the hell are you building?" he asks causing Amber to hide behind Connor who had been observing "My science fair project" she says and adds "I wanted to make an automated multi hover machine, but someone else took that idea, so I improvised a little bit...". Batman glares at her and says "Come back and take it to your room". Artemis sweatdrops thinking about her own project, an old unoriginal volcano "Coming, but you need to do me a favor" Amber says and she adds "Help Arty with her poject" "If she brings it here I'll help her" Batman says and the screen disappears "Arty, grab that old thing of yours and I'll see you later" Amber says running of.

When Artemis arrives at the Batcave with her project, it took forever to explain to the non humans what a science fair is, she see Amber just coming back up "Who stole your first idea?" she asks and Amber sweatdrops "You know who" she says and sighs "Luckily I might just make it in time if I work till late" she says and tackles her best friend into a hug when he comes down "Amber I need some of your material" he says, but Amber says "I need everything", Artemis looks at the two and smiles. "Well I ran out" Dick says and sighs "Please", Amber sweatdrops and says "Go check the box closest to the elevator to see if you can use something from there". Amber heads down as well and heads to the second room, which she turned into a half bedroom/half lab and she sees Dick inspecting her project "Can you not do that?" she asks walking over "I don't want scratches on it" she adds as she grabs something that looks like a battery and she moves to the back of her andriod looking thing "Now shoo" she saw waving him off and he leaves. He comes back up and says "I'm so getting second place this year" "If she succeeds, yes" Batman says and he adds "But she has better materials, then again, you stole her first idea". Artemis chuckles and says "Guess I'll end up fifth or something" "Third" Batman says.

At the day that the two wards of Bruce Wayne are going to see who's better Artemis decided to invite the rest of the team as well "So circus freaks, ready to lose?" a snobby girl asks and Amber says "Look, if I wanted it to my awesome project could punch you in the face so hard you'd break a few things". So as the teachers go by everyone Amber is making a few last adjustments "And done" she says and Artemis sweatdrops "So getting fifth place" she says seeing all the projects "Amber, what did you make?" the headmaster asks and Amber says "An andriod" "I see, does it work?" the male asks and as on que the adriod activates "Fasinating, more so then Richard's invention. Artemis, the old volcano I see" he says and Artemis nods slightly and she activates it, though with Batman's modification it's pretty realistic and it even gives of smoke and all that "The best one we've seen in years, now has any of you see Richard's project?" he asks and the two girls sweatdrop "Cleaning up the mess your role model student made" Artemis says and Amber fakes a gasps "I thought I was that", the headmaster sighs and says "Very funny, now I have some things to discus with the other judges". The results are pretty easy to guess though Artemis is surprised when she gets third place, but the Joker obviously has to ruin everything and he laughs "Look at all the things I can destroy, and the school to go boom then too" he says with that creepy grin of his and everyone backs away, obviously failing to notice Artemis and Robin are gone, but Amber gets pushed down by the students "Seriously Joker?" Robin asks crossing his arms "Yep" he says and turns to the two heroes as Artemis aims an arrow at him "I wouldn't do that if I were you" Joker says "You'll blow up the entire room" "Explosive gass, really?" Amber asks raising an eyebrow "Go and beat him up" she says and her newest creation jumps into action "How come, of all normal people in this room, that you're not scared?" Joker asks earning a shrug "Guess a psycho clown doesn't have much things left that can be feared" she says crossing her arms "And the fact you have the creation of a normal person that can beat you up" she adds bluntly. Robin sweatdropa, but suddenly gets a splitting headache "Robin you alright?" Artemis asks earning a nod "Just some memories" he whispers and he eyes the Joker "That aren't pleasant". Amber takes this chance to slip away and change "I thought the Joker was in Arkham" she says looking at the screen "He got away before they got him in completely" Batman says and he adds "Whatever you do, keep Robin save at all cost" "Sure, as soon as the water stops- I'll call back", she cuts the call and gets Robin out of the way as the roof breaks down and water starts flooding in "That thing water proof?" Artemis asks, but Amber says "Guess we'll find out, I do know it wasn't made to battle villains". Robin looks at all the panicking students and mumbles "I'm sure most of them can swim" "Don't be too sure about that" Artemis says and they all have to take a deep breath, but before Joker can escape the andriod grabs his leg before shutting down completely. Luckily the others managed to get out and Connor punches a hole in the wall so the water is let out slowly. "Robin, Shadow, Artemis, you guys okay?" Aqualad asks helping Artemis and Shadow up, who shoot a look at Robin before the three vanish. Amber, once she's back in civilan clothes runs to her science project and she sighs "And I worked hard on it too..." she says, but Artemis puts a hand on her shoulder "At least it caught the Joker" the blonde says as the police arrive "Is everyone alright?" Gordon asks and he sees the Joker "Ah that's where he is, take him away" he says as Amber is busy trying to get it up again "Who created that?" Gordon asks and the headmaster says "Amber here did, for school" "I see" Gordon says and he walks over to the girl "I might know someone who can get it working again" he says, but Amber shakes her head "That's kind of you commisioner, but it's not made to fight villains, I'll put it somewhere in my room, besides, fixing it now is impossible, even Bruce Wayne his technology is outdated compared to this, he said so himself" she says "We'll fix what we can concerning the school" Gordon says looking at the headmaster who nods.

Back home Amber puts her andriod in a corner of her room and she sighs "Amber, don't feel so down, you won first place" Dick says sitting next to her on her bed "I made that with stuff from the future, I can't fix it until we've reached that time ourselves" Amber says resting her head on his shoulder "If it helps, I remember more things" he says. Of course Alfred has to ruin the moment by walking in "Since there's no patrol tonight master Bruce suggests that you get the BBQ ready" he says and adds "You're allowed to invite friends", Amber looks at Alfred saying "I'll forgive you for walking in without knocking, this once", this earns her a chuckle from the butler who says "It won't happen again I assure you"
