Chapter 35: 'Death' of a hero

In the warehouse the two Jokers are waiting until their captive comes too "Make sure to stall her 'family' when they arrive" f.Joker says and Shadow slowly comes too "Really Joker, we knew you'd do this, you really think we weren't prepared?" she asks standing up and she dodges the knife, landing just in range of the normal Joker to hand him a batarang "Remember, 50 seconds" she whispers and he nods slightly "What are you agreeing too?" F.Joker asks and Shadow says "I asked if he was enjoying this".

Batman, Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl and Red Hood meet up and Robin says "She will be fine, for the most part anyway" Nightwing nods "She could still died, but she's not stupid, she knows what to do, but we're short on time" he says so they split up to look in groups, Nightwing and Robin, Red Hood and Batgirl and finally Batmsn without a partner. He wondered what the others knew that he didn't, but he'd ask when Shadow was save.

Back at the warehouse Shadow kicks the future Joker against the wall, holding her side in pain as she glances at the timer as it starts "I wish I could stick around long enough to watch you die, but sadly I can't" she looks at the clown and says "You'll need more then that to keep me down you stupid clown", this pisses him off and he charges at her again.

At the mountain M'gann and Connor made an energency call to the future "She's gone, they're all looking for her, but no luck so far" M'gann says and they see Nightwing run of to check on his kids "We gave her instructions, but it's still depends if she's lucky enough" Batman says "If we hadn't gotten the new radar we'd find her too late" Connor says and he adds "So we narrowed down the search area, but it's still a large area".

"Anything?" Batgirl asks as they meet up again "Not yet, that leaves one warehouse in the area" Batman says and Nightwing checks the timer "55 seconds left" he says and Tim hugs his arm hiding his face as sn explosion is heard and the five run over to where is came from "Uh uh Bats" Joker says and he looks at the group "Unless you wanna die a painful death I wouldn't go there" he adds and Nightwing asks "Is she still alive?" "Who knows" Joker says and Tim takes one of Batman's batarang and before any of them can stop him he trows if as hard as he can towards the half destroyed building "Robin what was that good for?" Batgirl asks and Robin looks down "She doesn't have any of those" he mumbles, Joker starts laughing as he says "There's no way she'll be able to grab it on time, she'll be killed". Batman glares and says "He's mine", however none of the others make s move to stop him to and Nightwing counts to five in his head before running towards the warehouse "Don't let Batman follow me, at any cost".

At the mountain M'gann is pacing, actually pacing with her feet on the ground "This is so stressing" she says and Connor says "They'll be fine M'gann". Blue Beetle looks at the screen that shows the half exploded warehouse and says "Zoom in on the building", Connor zooms in and they can see some movements "She's alive" M'gann says, but she almost has to correct herself when they see the future Joker walking towards a figure "Or not".

Shadow groans in pain as the damn clown stabs her in her trowing arm and he says "I wanna hear you scream! Come on scream in pain!" "The only one screaming will be you!" she says grabbing the batarang Tim had thrown earlier and she kicks the clown backwards and she uses her good arm to push him against the wall before pinning him in place with the batarang "Now we both can say bye" she hisses, but she's kicked away as the Joker tries to free himself, but a loud bleeping stops him "Well then Shadow Angel, goodbye" he says and she manages to run/limp to the already destroyed part, but doesn't make it completely and the rest of the building explodes.

Nightwing's eyes widen in horror and the rest soon comes next to him "She... Blew up the other half" Batman says and he runs forward, first seeing the clown on the ground under a rock and Nightwing follows him "Over there" he says and the two run over to the place and Batmsn moves a large rock "Please be alive" Nightwing says checking for a pulse and he almost panics, but finds one "She needs a hospital fast" he says only to see Batgirl ahead of them and Batman check on the Joker. Shadow hugs Nightwing, wincing as she moves and she whispers "Tell them I died, please" "Why?" he asks and Shadow says "I can't do this anymore, maybe later again, but not now", he nods and holds her close and he feels tears in his eyes as M'gann arrives with the bioship "Nightwing?" she asks seeing him on the ground with a not moving Shadow "M'gann take her to the Batcave, Shadow Angel is dead" he says earning a nod showing she understood.

At the batcave Nightwing explains what their plan was and also told the bat family what Amber had said "In other words, she's using this as a chance to retire completely" Batman says earning a nod "She said she wants to join the Justice League when she's ready to" Nightwing says and they head upstairs. Tim and Dick take turns watching Amber and Jason is in the batcave, their Joker was locked up in Arkham, but Batman said he had to look for anything, they couldn't spare anyone at the moment.

After a few days Artemis arrives with Wally and Tim takes them to Amber's room where they see she's trying to walk, but Wally has to catch her "Just wanted something to eat" Amber mumbles and Wally puts her back on the bed before speeding of to tell the butler as Artemis sits on the none occupied side, since Dick was asleep, "We thought you died" she says and Amber smiles sadly "I honestly thought I was gonna die too" she says and Artemis pulls her into a hug "I'm so glad you're alive" the archer says and Amber winces slightly "I'm sorry Arty" she says "But until I'm ready to join the Justice League I'll be myself again" she adds "Then come spend some time with me and Wally after you recovered" Artemis says earning a nod.
