(Ross's P.O.V.)
I acted resilient to Jin's insults. Deep inside, they broke me. They snapped my heart in two. As the song goes -words can build us up, words can break us down- and that's exactly what they did to me. They broke me down till I had no clue whether I could still stand on. But I knew I had to. She needed me. And no words could keep me from that.
I walk down the hallway to one door. It had a sign on it that read 'Surgery in Progress, Do not Enter'. I walked to the bench across from it and sat there. I have no idea how long I was there for but, what I do know is that the only thoughts running around in my head were this.
"What will I do if this doesn't come out in the silver lining?"
I had no train of thought other than that. My brain had gone to a place where everyone's does at some point. I was contemplating how much my life would be worth if she was gone. I knew on the inside that I had to keep positive, for her. Eventually, my mind just shut off. I sat there for I don't know how long with a broken heart and a blank mind.
"Sir, the doctor is coming to speak with you." My head shot up. The doctor was coming to speak to me? About what? What about Phoenix? Was she alright? Was the surgery a success?
"T-thank you for coming and telling me," I stuttered. My brain flashed a million questions at once. I heard the door squeak open. I looked over and saw the doctor standing there. I stood up and he walked over to me.
"Doctor, how did the surgery go? Is she OK? Just give it to me straight, no beating around the bush with this."
" Woah, woah there! Slow down and let me talk. Alright. Let's start from the beginning. The surgery went well. No problems so far with her. As for the second question, well, it's too early to tell for sure but -from the looks of things now- she is going to make a full recovery."
That's when my brain caved in on itself. She was going to be OK! The doctor must have noticed because he braced me as if I looked like I was going to faint.
I shook his hand and said,"I know that it's not certain yet, but just hearing that will bring up the spirits of everyone here for her, I know it has for me. Thank you, Doctor, just thank you."
He smiled at me and replied,"That's the reason I became a doctor in the first place. To help people like you and your friends. People who need all the help and encouragement that they can get. I'll keep an eye on her and if anything happens, I guarantee that you will be the first to know."
"Again, I couldn't thank you even near enough. I am just so relieved even by knowing that."
From that point, there was a different thought in my mind. 'Now all we have left to do is wait.'
