Book 1: Earth
Chapter 8: The Southern Air Temple
"Mae!" Fung exclaimed, running towards her. "We've been so worried about you!" He reached Mae and gave her two brotherly pats on the back.

Ouch......

Mae could walk now. A bit of pain in the arm, but it was ok to cope with. But her throat hurt so much. There was a big sore lump and it was swelling red.

"W...whhat happened?" Mae managed to stuttered in a weak voice. She looked around, to see Fung, who seemed slightly worried and Kato standing beside him.

"We're at the Southern Air Temple, he explained. "Our boat ended up here, on the shores, after, you know, you did your avatar thing...?" Suddenly everything flashed back. Crazily attempting to sail to Whale Tail Island on a teeny fishing boat, the sudden storm, the boat breaking apart and the avatar state. Mae shivered at the thought of what she did.

And Fung, who usually had that humorous spark to him seemed quite grim.

"H..how long was I asleep for?"

A deep male voice which came from behind replied her question. "Five days,"

Mae gasped in shock. "Five days?" She repeated to herself. They all nodded.

Behind Kato, was a tall stern looking man wearing a dark red cape. Who was this man? He seemed middle aged, 50 or so. And oh, he also head was also as bald as a soft boiled egg. Except, on his stretched face he had a blue tattoo pointing to his nose. Mae's eyes trailed to his hands, which revealed the same blue tattoo. Mastery tattoos of airbending.

She gasped. "You're an airbender!"

There were just too many questions in these five days that couldn't be answered at once.

"I apologise for not introducing myself earlier," the tall airbender said knowingly with a bow, "my name is Tenzin. It's an honour to meet you, avatar Mae," he said with a stern smile. There was something wise in the so-called Tenzin.

Mae smiled and bowed back. Her memory and energy were gradually coming back.

"Tenzin, may I ask exactly where am I? And exactly who you are?"

He nodded. "You are in the Southern air temple. After your boat crashed here, the air acolytes who live here brought you up to heal and rest you here."

"What happened to me?" Mae cut in. Tenzin looked at Fung and Kato for an answer and Kato replied.

"When we got washed up here, you'd been injured. There was a nasty cut in your arm, and then you got an infection from uh...... uh....." He lost his words and looked at Tenzin for help.

"From the sea serpent's venom," he finished off. Mae gasped. She had head tales of this legendary creature but never did she know that was the very creature which had attack the gang.

Tenzin finished off, "My sister, Kya was around and she used waterbending to heal you. If it wasn't for her, things could have went down the wrong track."

Mae felt dizzy as she tried to take it all in. "Is Kya here now? How can I ever thank her?"

"She has left for her home, the Southern water tribe a few days ago." Tenzin replied wisely.

Hang on, Mae thought. Airbender? Sister waterbender. She gasped as she realised.

"Hang on! You must be Aang's son!" she exclaimed, thinking why she hadn't realised before.
