Carly's POV

The early morning sun was shining through my lavender curtains, leaving the room with a purple haze. Louie was already awake, because I could hear him eating from the kitchen. He must've left some food in his bowl from the night before. I shuffled out of bed and looked out of my window to see the streets. Fall was right around the corner, so the days were getting shorter and the weather was a little cooler. I adored the Autumn weather so much. Between the changing leaves, the colors of the sunrise, and the lamest excuse ever to cuddle, Fall had to be my favorite season.

Usually anyone would want their day off to go by very slowly, but tonight was the night, and I could not wait for 7 o'clock to roll around. What would I even wear? I had absolutely no clue about where he was going to take me, so it wasn't like I had much to work with. There really wasn't much else to do around the house, so I took out my phone and called my grandparents.

After a few rings, my grandmother picked up the call.

"Hello?" I heard her raspy voice on the other end say. "Is that my wonderful granddaughter who never calls me?"

"Grandma," I whined. "I'm sorry, I've been really busy with work, and Violet has been up my butt the past few days. How are you guys?"

"We're doing good. Your grandpa had to go the doctor the other day for his heart," she explained to me. "But, the doctor says everything is looking good. How have you been, sweetheart?"

I ran a hand through my hair and grinned.

"I have a date tonight..."

"Well, tell me about him! Did Violet finally set you up with someone?"

"No," I replied triumphantly. " I met him on my own. We were both at the coffee shop near my place."

I could hear her smile through her voice, and it made me feel so good to know that she was feeling okay and doing well. I really did miss my grandparents very much. They lived in New Jersey, so it wasn't completely out of my way to visit, but with a hectic job, and a lazy fat cat that needed pampering all the time, it wasn't so easy to just drop everything and visit. I hated myself for it, but they knew I loved them. Right?

"That's wonderful, dear. I hope it goes well. Tell me all about it tomorrow. I can't wait to hear."

"I will, grandma," I promised to her.

I could hear someone's voice in the background, and then my grandmother laughed.

"Your grandpa would like to talk to you," she hummed through the phone.

There was a couple of shuffling noises, and then my sweet old grandpa started talking into the phone.

"Carly-Q!" he said hysterically, causing me to laugh incredibly hard. "How've you been?"

"I'm good, grandpa. How about you?"

He went on to talk about his doctor's appointments and how grandma was trying to get him to eat better, even though he would sneak chocolate candies when she wasn't looking. I had to berate him, of course, so that he would be able to see me get married one day.

"I'll be there, princess. I promise I will."

We said our goodbyes, me leaving the part out about how I was going to be going on a date in a few hours, and hung up the phone. It felt so incredibly good to hear their voices, and fat lazy cat or not, I'd have to make a trip up there soon.

About an hour before Marshall was to pick me up, I started to get ready, hair, makeup, and all. It felt good to be getting ready for a date and not just work or some silly event Violet would drag me to. As I was curling my hair, I received a text from Marshall.
