I was running really fast, trailing behind Austin. When we're finally standing on our doorstep, he suddenly grabbed my hand.

"Mom is fine." He said as he was scratching the back of his head. Say what?

"What are you talking about?" I asked, puzzled.

"Look, the truth is, Mom is watching Desperate Housewives in the living room. I lied." He sighed.

"Okay, I am so confuse right now. What is going on?!" I said, rasing my voice.

"Mom never passed out, okay? I bailed you out from River Coleman's house. You should thank me." He smirked.

"Bail me out? I was having a good time with him."

"Really?" He said with pure sarcasm.

"A little!" I defended.

"Look, I know a lot of things about this town. Long before we even moved here. And River Coleman is one of them. He used to be in a gang, Julie. When he was 15, he accidentally killed a cat. That story went viral!"

"It was just a cat. Hundreds of cats are killed by accident, every day." I rolled my eyes.

"Exactly, it's a cat. Don't you feel sorry for them? Their lives are precious."

"They have 7 lives. Surely, it lived."

"But it didn't!"

"He wasn't responsible for the first six deaths of that stupid cat."

"Maybe he was! And it wasn't an accident. It was a murder!" He said, imitating the voice of Sherlock Holmes.

"Nevermind. I'm going inside, weirdo." Sometimes, I am so embarrass about the fact that Austin is my brother. When I walked inside the house, I saw my parents laughing with a very familiar face. What is Ely doing here?

"Ely?" I blurted. They all stopped talking and stared at me.

"Oh, hey there Julie! Your timing is perfect. This guy wants to talk to you." Mom informed. Ely stood and walked towards my direction.

"Hey..." He trailed.

"Hi. Is there something you want from me?"

"Yeah. Actually there's something I want to ask you."

"Okay. Go on."

"Are you busy this Friday night?"

"Nope. I don't have any plans."

"Cool. You wanna go somewhere with me?"

"Are you asking me out?" I gasped.

"Maybe I am." He winked at me.

"Awesome. I'm in."

"Great. Well, it's settled. Anyways, I think I should probably go now. I still have tons of homework to do."

"See you around!"
